Job description NEWS RESEARCHER (NIGHTSHIFT) Edinburgh Shifts An 8‐hour shift, between the hours of 10.30pm and 7.30am (with 30‐minute paid break) 14 nights on ‐ 14 nights off shift pattern Salary Dependent on experience Overview Press Data, one of the UK's leading providers of media intelligence, are currently looking for News Researchers to join our Nightshift Content and Editorial team based in central Edinburgh. Our team work throughout the night monitoring key media sources for a wide range of clients. Our Content and Editorial team is responsible for monitoring press, broadcast and online content for an extensive list of clients across multiple sectors. News Researchers play a critical role in our media monitoring service, with responsibility for viewing, assessing, and delivering news items to meet our clients’ complex requirements. Our Nightshift News Researchers work overnight to ensure that all relevant articles from the national press and online sources are delivered in our clients’ early morning summaries. News Researchers are required to summarise and contextualise news articles and also have responsibility for copyediting key content before it is sent to clients. Duties and responsibilities
Monitoring of press, online and broadcast sources accurately to agreed time targets
Accurate selection of items according to individual client requirements
Handling client delivery and quality control responsibilities, delivering articles to agreed deadlines
Writing and sending accurate, concise summaries to meet tight deadlines
Writing verbatim transcripts of broadcast items as selected by clients
Maintaining and updating knowledge of client requirements, the media environment and working procedures
Any other reasonable tasks as assigned by management
Skills required Essential
Excellent knowledge of UK current affairs
Fast, accurate typing and good all‐round IT skills
Ability to work and communicate well within a team structure
Effective time management in order to meet multiple tight deadlines
Excellent written and spoken English with in‐depth understanding of grammar
Desirable
Previous experience of working in media monitoring or media intelligence role
Ability to interpret, extract and evaluate written content accurately and at speed
Qualification in journalism, media or communications subject
Some writing or journalistic experience
