We are currently looking for a reliable and detail-oriented Laundry Assistant to join our dedicated team. The Laundry Assistant will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and presentation of all laundered items used by our residents and staff, contributing directly to the comfort and hygiene of our home environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Laundry Operations
  • Collect, sort, and prepare residents’ personal laundry, linen, towels, and other items for washing, carefully following care instructions and separating by color, fabric, and soiling level.
  • Operate industrial washing machines, dryers, and pressing equipment, following all health and safety guidelines specific to care homes.
  • Select appropriate detergents and cleaning solutions, adhering to health and infection control policies to protect residents’ health and maintain fabric quality.
Regulatory and Compliance
  • Ensure that the home operates in compliance with CIW standards, Health and Social Care Act, and other relevant legislation.
  • Participate in audits to monitor the quality of care, ensuring documentation, care plans, and health records are accurate, up-to-date, and comply with regulatory standards.
  • Act as a lead in ensuring infection control policies are adhered to and that the environment is safe, clean, and risk-free.
Inspection and Quality Control
  • Inspect all laundered items for cleanliness, damage, or stains, retreating or setting aside any items needing extra attention.
  • Fold, iron, and package items for a neat and professional appearance, ensuring items are ready for prompt use by residents and staff.
Storage and Organisation
  • Store laundered items in designated areas, maintaining an organized inventory of fresh linens and ensuring timely delivery to residents' rooms or care units as needed.
  • Keep the laundry facility clean, organized, and in line with infection control guidelines.
Stock Management
  • Regularly check and maintain an inventory of laundry supplies, such as detergents and PPE, and inform the management team when stock is low or requires restocking.
  • Ensure proper handling and storage of cleaning materials, in compliance with COSHH regulations.
Resident Focused Service
  • Handle personal items with care and respect, ensuring all residents' belongings are returned promptly to their rooms.
  • Provide friendly and attentive service, accommodating any specific laundry needs or preferences of residents.
Operational Support
  • Support the Home Manager in the day-to-day running of the home, stepping in to cover managerial duties in their absence when required.
  • Collaborate with the Home Manager in the recruitment, selection, and induction of new nursing and care staff.
Health, Safety, and Compliance
  • Follow strict infection control procedures to prevent contamination and spread of infection within the care home.
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required and adhere to Gwernllwyn Care Home’s health and safety policies at all times.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE
  • Prior experience in a care home laundry or similar environment is beneficial, though not essential, as training will be provided
  • High standards of cleanliness and presentation to meet the care home’s quality requirements
  • Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively, especially with multiple laundry loads and varied fabric types
  • This role requires lifting, carrying, and moving heavy loads regularly as such it is imperative that the candidate must have physical stamina.
  • A respectful approach to residents' personal belongings and sensitivity to individual needs.
  • Ability to work well within a team and communicate effectively with care staff to support the home’s operations
Personal Attributes
  • Right to work in the UK
  • An enhanced DBS check is required for this position. You will need to register with Social Care Wales
  • The role will require flexibility, including evenings, weekends and holidays to support continuous care and meet the needs of the business
