Clinical Fellow in Maxillofacial Surgery

The applicant for ‘Fellow in Maxillofacial/ Head & Neck Surgery’ is expected to be a senior trainee who has completed or is near completion of their specialist training and has both dental and medical degrees, with ability to obtain conditional professional registration in the UK. The role would be for a minimum of 12 months.

The fellow is expected to be part of a cohesive team which integrates well with colleagues in ENT, Plastic Surgery and the allied Dental Specialties. The fellow will attend theatre sessions, general and multidisciplinary clinics and undertake ward rounds. To obtain full benefit from the post the applicant should already possess a broad OMFS operative experience and a good grounding specifically in head and neck cancer surgery. Participation on the second on call rota for Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery will be a mandatory part of the role.

The fellow would be expected to provide on call cover under the responsibility of the on call consultant but would be expected to operate independently and to offer teaching to junior colleagues when possible.

The role could be tailored to an applicant’s particular training needs including cross specialty exposure to ENT/Plastic surgery if required.

Applicants are strongly advised to discuss the role with the Specialty Lead in OMFS before application.

The fellow will be expected to diagnose and treat patients to a high standard under the guidance of supervising consultants. Treatment may include providing minor oral surgery to both out-patients and in-patients. This post contributes to the middle grade on-call rota within OMFS, in conjunction with a DCT and consultant.
