Oakdene Short Break and Chestnut Long-stay services provide residential care for children and young people aged 5-18 years who have moderate to severe learning difficulties. Some of our children and young people exhibit challenging behaviours whilst others may have high medical needs.

About the role
As a Residential Worker, you will fulfil a range of responsibilities, subject to skills and experience.
Key Worker: You will be taking the responsibility of being a key worker for children and young people in residence.
Creativity: You will develop programmes and create warm and stimulating experiences for children and young people, for example out of unit activities such as holidays.
Preparation: Plan, prepare and facilitate group work with a mix of age and ability and carry out agreed plans.
Flexibility / Shift Work: You will be working two out of three weekends whether full-time or part time based on the rota.
Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience
  • You will need to have a recognised qualification such as a Diploma in Residential Child Care (or equivalent).
  • Recent experience of working in a childcare environment with the ability to work weekends.
  • Good observations and assessments skills with the ability to understand and enjoy challenge.
  • Dedication to providing a safe stimulating environment for children are essential qualities required.
  • You will be supportive to others, adaptable and creative.
