The University of South Wales (USW) is one of the UK’s most exciting and ambitious universities. Our recent notable achievements include having been shortlisted for the Times Higher Education’s ‘University of the Year’ (2023), awarded ‘Cyber University of the Year’ (in 2022/23), rated No.1 for Postgraduate Research Student Experience (PRES) in the UK (2023), and No. 1 in Wales for graduate start-ups and entrepreneurship.
Learning Services (USW Careers, Library Services and Student Development & Study Skills) work collaboratively to realise a responsive student and graduate employability and skills support offer.
We are now seeking a motivated and engaging Careers Consultancy Support Officer to support USW Careers to enhance service accessibility, build on-campus presence and enhance the number of students proactively planning their career through offering a peer-to-peer student engagement and coaching model.
This peer-to-peer model interacts with learners in a unique way which removes barriers to engagement, supports a ‘sense of belonging’ and has the potential to support and shape the future delivery of USW Careers services.
As well as responsibility for co-ordinating an on-campus team of student staff, this role will include acting as the first point of contact for USW students seeking careers support, guiding them towards our resources and services and tracking and acting upon student engagement data.
Applicants for this post should be enthusiastic and confident working with students, have interest in the development of student peer-to-peer support and learning; demonstrate excellent organisational and time management skills; have experience of a customer facing team environment and possess excellent interpersonal and engagement skills.
This part-time role (27 hours per week) will be based within the USW Careers, Careers and Graduate Development Team, with responsibilities linked to the USW 2030 strategy, USW Careers Annual Plan and USW Differential Outcomes Action Plan.
The University is currently operating a hybrid-model of working with workdays split between all our USW campus locations (main base will be Treforest campus) and from home. This role will require most of your time to be on campus during term time. For an informal conversation please contact the Career and Graduate Development Manager: Emma Forouzan: [email protected]
If you are a successful candidate and this position will be your first professional services role at the University (or you are currently employed by PSS Ltd), you will be employed by Professional and Support Services Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of South Wales, which provides services to the University and Colleges. If you are an internal professional services candidate, you will continue to be employed by the University of South Wales.
