Job Description
Your responsibilities

The SY-STI-TCD section oversees the conceptual design, construction, operation, and maintenance of beam-intercepting devices across the CERN's accelerator complex. The beam intercepting devices are precision mechanical equipment working in harsh environments that must be reliable for the operation of CERN accelerators.
You are multitasking, autonomous, inventive and passionate about mechanical engineering? Take part! As a mechanical technician, you will contribute to the SY-STI group's activities and your functions will include:
  • You will be part of multidisciplinary team in charge of the conception, manufacturing, assembly, installation, maintenance and project follow-up for the future experiments and SPS & LHC Beam Dumps and absorbers.
  • You will work for the design, realization, installation and dismantling of a prototype target/absorber, which will be tested with proton beam to validate a design for the HIECN3 Project;
  • You will also coordinate the production of the equipment, schedule the assembly as well as all required mechanical tests before installation for various components of the North Area and Accelerator Consolidation Projects.
  • You will also contribute to mechanical support activities carried in the accelerators complex and you could mill/turn mechanical components in our mechanical workshop, equipped with both CNC and conventional machines. You will have access to state-of-the-art CAD, engineering tools, and manufacturing facilities (e.g. mechanical workshops and rapid prototyping), and will work under the close supervision of experienced CERN staff, interacting daily with the group's technical team and collaborating with institutes and industrial partners.

About us
At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern.

Diversity has been an integral part of CERN's mission since its foundation and is an established value of the Organization. Employing a diverse workforce is central to our success.
