SENIOR LECTURER (1 Post) (Contract)

Senior Lecturer: Engineering and Technology Management (full-time contract position)


The Graduate School of Technology Management (GSTM) is the first graduate school of its kind in South Africa and also the largest in Africa. The GSTM provides management skills and knowledge training to practising engineers and scientists. The GSTM offers internationally recognised postgraduate programmes at honours, masters and doctoral level in Technology and Innovation Management, Engineering Management and Project Management. Research is a high priority for the GSTM.
Successful candidates should be committed to excellence in Engineering and Technology management research and postgraduate teaching (expertise in research methodologies and virtual, hybrid and face-to-face teaching will be advantageous).

It will be expected of the successful candidates to:

• Teach post-graduate modules on the programme focus areas of the GSTM;
• Supervise postgraduate Master’s and Doctoral students;
• Consistently Publish research articles in the foremost internationally accredited journals;
• Conduct research in a highly productive manner;
• Raise and manage additional funding from national and international funding agencies and industry to support the activities of the relevant GSTM research areas;
• Expand existing research programmes or initiate new research programmes;
• Perform assigned departmental duties (e.g. of an administrative nature).

• A BEng or BSc Eng degree;
• A Masters’ degree in Engineering (Preferably in the field of Industrial Engineering or Engineering Management);
• A relevant Ph D degree that follows on the previous qualification (Preferably in the field of Industrial Engineering or Engineering Management);
• At least 2 articles published in DHET accredited journals or a DHET accredited book;
• At least 2 other publication outputs (peer reviewed conference paper(s) / book chapter(s) / industry recognized outputs in a commensurate field;
• Supervision / co-supervision of Master’s students to completion or proven management experience in industry.
• At least 3 years tertiary education experience or 3 years industry experience with some involvement in tertiary education.

• Evidence of teaching excellence to large postgraduate classes;
• Industry or research experience especially within the field of Techno-economics and/or Life cycle assessment;
• Expertise and research experience in one or more of the specialist areas of the Energy Systems research group in the Department;
• Candidates registered or registerable as Professional Engineer with ECSA;
• Candidates registered or registerable as Industrial Engineering Professional or equivalent;
• NRF rating or have applied for one.

The all-inclusive remuneration package for this contract position will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines.
