The position has some specialist and technical aspects and will expose the successful candidate to different aspects of Competition Law and Economics.
A starting annual total cost to company package of R 1 227 388,98 negotiable commensurate with experience)
Please note that this position is available on a five (5) year fixed-term contract, renewable. Key Accountabilities The main responsibilities of the incumbent will, inter alia, include:
Assist in managing and conducting complex investigations regarding possible contraventions of the Act and/or assist in managing and conducting work streams in market inquiries.
Assist with the legal/ economic analysis of cases and/or market inquiries.
Present verbal and written reports and recommendations to the Managers and the Commissioner for decision-making.
Act as a representative of the Commission within the framework of the Competition Act when communicating with business, consumers, employer/ employee representatives and other government agencies.
Lead investigation teams and/or work streams in market inquiries, with assistance from the Principal Analyst.
Brief legal counsel on matters to be referred to the Competition Tribunal.
Appear on behalf of the Commission on non-complex cases
Do research and investigation and prosecutions under supervision
Provide legal opinions and economic research
Skills and Experience We are looking for dynamic, hardworking and a committed individuals who meets the following requirements:
Honours degree in Economics or Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Degree. Masters in Economics or LLM will be given preference.
6 - 8 years Economics or Legal experience, it would be advantageous if this was in a Regulatory environment.
Experience in Competition Law will be an advantage.
Strong investigative acumen.
Proven Project Management experience working in multi-disciplinary investigation teams.
Other considerations:
Practical work exposure to area of expertise will be further considered to balance against other requirements.
