Role Purpose
The Legal Advisor will assist senior legal advisor responsible for financial planning and technical support relating to risk, investments, and fiduciary solutions in both individual & business markets.


Requirements
Qualifications:

  • Relevant Law degree/LLB qualification.
  • RE5 certification, or in process of obtaining it.
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Planning/CFP will be an advantage.

Experience:


  • 1 - 3 years’ experience in the legal industry as a registered attorney.
  • 2 - 3 years’ experience in the financial services industry.
  • Experience in financial planning & insurance industry is preferred.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the senior legal advisor to provide advice to business on various legal and technical matters in line with legal framework and best practice.


  • Work closely with the senior legal advisor to Provide legal assistance and advice to all stakeholders on any corporate legal related matters to ensure soundness of commercial operations enabling business to achieve its objectives.


  • Financial Planning: Identify, analyse, and assist with the implementation of solutions to MDS consultants and independent financial advisers and their practices regarding:
    • Estate planning (including Fiduciary Specialist services)
    • Business planning
    • Tax planning
    • Investment planning
    • Retirement planning


  • Provide support to independent financial advisors to:
    • Ensure that independent financial advisor financial planning needs are established, and legal support is provided relevant to those needs.
    • Ensuring the client’s best interest is prioritized in all client engagements, discussions, follow-ups and adaptions/modifications and feedback that is given.
    • Partner with MDS consultants to growth and retain business from supporting advisors.
    • Train and develop MDS consultants and independent financial advisors and assist them with growing their business by providing quality legal and technical support, including fiduciary services.
    • Draft and assist with the monthly, quarterly, and ad-hoc knowledge sharing publications to the consultants and IFAs (ASAP, Leverage and Momentarily)
    • Build and maintain relationships with clients, IFAs, consultants, and other internal and external stakeholders.
    • Participate and contribute to a culture which builds rewarding relationships, facilitates feedback and provides exceptional client service.
    • Drive client service delivery goal achievement in line with predefined business standards, to ensure that clients receive appropriate advice and after sales service.


  • Compliance matters:
    • While under supervision, to ensure the necessary FAIS Compliance documents are completed and signed and placed on record (Letter of Introduction and Record of Advice, if applicable).
    • Ensure that all legal execution documents are executed in accordance with relevant industry legislation and requirements.
    • Update and educate the MDS business and clients on changes or amendments to business laws and advise how this may affect the business when required.


Note: This role may require you to travel between provinces.
