THE HAVEN BELIEVES NO ONE SHOULD HAVE TO LIVE ON THE STREETS. 1x Vacant Post: Field Worker position at The Haven Night Shelter Napier Street The Haven Night Shelter mentioned above requires the services of Field Worker who will report directly to the Shelter Manager of the respective shelter. The Haven Night Shelter Organisation’s method is to offer social work services, rehabilitation opportunities, family reunification services, physical care and support to adult people living on the streets who are committed to reintegration. Minimum Duties: The Field Worker will be responsible for:
Determine the resources available to street people in the surrounding areas.
Develop relationships with the street people and resources in the area to begin the management of the street person population downward.
Identify new arrivals and using resources available to discourage them from making a home on the streets in the defined area.
Working as part of a team deployed in the adjacent areas to avoid shifting the problem around.
Establish baseline data in respect of numbers, distribution, composition and point of origin of homeless persons in the defined area.
Render reports and participate in the appropriate forums to create an integrated and more rational approach to the downward management of the street people population.
Maintain constant communication with relevant authorities, through feedback, reports, checking CRS etc.
Ring – fence in the defined areas.
Refer street people for ID, SASSA, Social Housing applications.
Networking with shelters/safe spaces/NHW/CID/BID etc.
Encouraging people living on the street (PLOTS) to attend day centre programs in the shelters, rehabilitation and other therapeutic sessions.
Promote TB/HIV care through education and work with the Shelter Social Worker with cases where children and known cases of GBV exists.
Minimum Requirements: - Reside in the area close to the shelter or in the surrounding areas, Code B drivers licence, Grade 12 or equivalent, be able to work shifts and alternate weekends, ability to interact with clients from different cultures and religions, manage conflict situations, basic level of computer literacy - MS Office, MS Excel and Outlook, ability to work as a team player, be of sober habits, no criminal record, be in good health, atleast one year of relevant experience & NGO experience will be an advantageous.
