Minimum Requirements:
- A relevant Doctoral Degree
- At least 7 years’ experience in higher education
- Extensive undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and research experience in the area of Music
- A track record of international and national accredited research publications commensurate with the
academic rank of Associate Professor
- Postgraduate supervision experience including successful Doctoral supervision commensurate with the
academic rank of Associate Professor

- Qualification / courses in higher education teaching and learning
- Evidence of successful national and international fundraising for research.
- Some standing as a scholar in a chosen area of research (e.g., NRF rating, international keynote addresses/
plenary lectures)
- Evidence of academic leadership and mentorship of early career academics.
- Evidence of successfully hosting post-doctoral research fellows.
- Evidence of national and international collaboration
- Evidence of community engagement integrated with teaching, learning or research
Responsibilities:
- Provide academic leadership in research; curriculum design, development, and implementation
- Teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules
- Meet research publication requirements for the academic rank of associate professor
- Secure external research grants and establish research programs
- Supervise all levels of postgraduate students and host post-doctoral fellows
- Establish institutional, national and international collaborations
- Provide academic leadership and contribute to mentorship of academic staff
- Participate in community engagement integrated with teaching and/or research
- Contribute to University service and participate in administrative duties at departmental, faculty and university
levels.
