Position Title: Wheelchair Coach, Para-Athletics
Reports to: Head Coach
Direct Reports: N/A
Department: Sport Strategy & Performance
External Relationships: SOPC, Athletes, Coaches, Media and Sponsors
2 ROLE PURPOSE
Produce the Athletics Wheelchair Program strategy and events specific plans to achieve medal success at major KPI events
Provide the technical direction and leadership for the Para-Wheelchair Program, supporting the Head Coach and SOTC Athletes
Develop and progress elite and emerging elite athletes to achieve medal winning performances
The Para-Athletics Wheelchair Coach will provide direct leadership to a group of athletes who have the potential to succeed at an international level
3 RESPONSIBILITIES
Support the Para Head Coach in developing a world-class training program
Collaborate with the Head coach and other teams to ensure that the Athletic Program is aligned with best practices
Provide coaching support on a daily basis for the development of inspired and empowered athletes with the medal-winning potential
Develop and execute short-term training programs to improve specific skills
Ensure that each elite and emerging elite athlete has an individual performance and competition plan
Provide recommendations for Wheelchair Athletics performance improvement plans for each athlete
Monitor the progress and performance of athletes on the team
Brief athletes on training and competition schedules, ensure that they are on-time and prepared for all scheduled activities
Support the identification of the next generation of medalists in Para Athletics Wheelchair Events through the development of talent identification program
4 EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE
Minimum 3 years of experience of coaching elite level athletes at the highest level
Extensive performance knowledge and technical expertise in developing Athletes in Wheelchair Athletics Paralympics Events.
Experience as a successful Coach in elite Athletics, ideally within paralympic Wheelchair Events, with international experience in performance, team and program delivery.
Understanding of the trends shaping the future of Para Athletics.
Experience and skills to oversee Paralympic Classes and programs of Sprint Events of multiple athletes.
Extensive performance knowledge and technical expertise in Athletics and support of Para-Athletes.
5 SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES
Proficiency in Sprint, including technical skills, strategies, and coaching methodologies.
Demonstrated skill in coaching para athletes at various levels, with an understanding of athlete development.
Ability to assist in teaching and refining sport-specific techniques and skills, hand in hand with S&C Coaches and Physio Staff.
Skills in helping design and implement training programs that complement athletes' physical, technical, and mental development.
Ability to collaborate with coaches, athletes, and support staff to optimize training environments.
6 QUALIFICATIONS
Relevant coaching qualification (national or recognised international accreditation)
