The Captainposition at Café Boulud is a pooled-tip service role that works closely with the management team and all other front-of-house and back-of-house team members. The Captain position is responsible for providing excellent service to guests with the intention of creating positive dining experiences. The Captain will be knowledgeable about the restaurant’s lunch and dinner menus as well as the beverage program. The Captain will engage in suggestive selling practices, take orders, deliver drinks, deliver food to dining room, collect funds, perform side work duties, help guests and fellow team members, and follow the policies and procedures as defined by management.
Café Boulud is inspired by Daniel Boulud’s four culinary muses: la tradition, classic French cuisine; la saison, seasonal delicacies; le potager, the vegetable garden; and le voyage, flavors of world cuisine. Essential Duties:
Greet all guests with enthusiasm and friendliness
Engage the guests to create positive dining experiences
Suggestively sell to the guest and build the per person check average
Deliver food and beverages to the guests at their table or bar
Execute on-going, pre- and post-shift side work
Open and close the dining room and beverage station as needed
Be knowledgeable of all menu items, preparation, and ingredients
Expedite, as needed
Seat guests, as needed
Competencies & Qualifications:
Previous experience in high-volume or fine dining environment
Knowledge of and interest in Mediterranean cuisine and wines
Operate MICROS, the point-of-sale (POS) computer system accurately
Actively practice food safety procedures
Able to take direction and complete tasks
Organizational skills
Effective time management
Pleasant demeanor
Positive and clear written and oral communication skills
Ability to engage guests successfully and build a relationship
Impeccable grooming as defined by management and dress code
