About the Role The Value Management (VM) Team needs to increase the competitiveness and profitability of the HARMAN Automotive products and solutions by implementing Value Management Methodologies like Cost Analysis and Optimization, Design to Value, Modularization and Standardization, Supplier Productivity improvements, Target Costing and support the Project management, R&D, Procurement and Quality. The Value Management Mechanical Engineer’s main responsibility is to identify these opportunities that results in product cost, feature or function improvements by using the Value Management Methodologies, which focus on existing product portfolios and new designs (RFQ’s), or improving product margins, while maintaining product integrity and quality. What You Will Do
Analyze product designs for cost improvement in cooperation with the appropriate engineering disciplines and technicians in alignment with customer and federal regulations and specifications.
Identify cost down opportunities concerning Mechanics in Automotive products by using Value Management tools and methods during RFQ, Pre-SOP and Post-SOP.
Master uses and hands-on experience with CAD design tools and systems, preferred PTC/Creo, to communicate designs.
Cooperate with cross-functional departments (e.g. Hardware, Manufacturing, Procurement, Quality, etc.) in an international environment.
Support VM workshops, compile ideas and drive the generic feasibility for mechanical opportunities.
Participate technical communication with suppliers regarding technical topics, especially cost optimization measures.
Analyze 3D models, assembly drawings and component drawings of product designs.
Analyze product assemblies and their subcomponents with consideration to customer requirements, cost, and quality.
Stay abreast of innovative manufacturing processes to enable optimal product design using DFA and/or Design for Assembly & Manufacturing methodology.
Prepare technical reports and presentations as necessary.
Evaluate the feasibility and cost savings impact of ideas through cost estimating, technical and manufacturing feasibility assessments.
Drives activities to deliver best cost solutions in order to have a cost optimized setup within quotes and products.
Support benchmarking activities and teardown analysis.
Investigate new components, substitutes, and technologies that reduce overall costs while maintaining or improving quality.
Cost estimations of sheet metal, plastic, PCB and purchased parts.
What You Need
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline. A Master's Degree in is preferred.
5+ years of mechanical design experience in the field of automotive electronics engineering.
Master use and hands-on experience with CAD design tool preferred PTC/Creo.
Expertise in mechanical development of automotive electronic products, and multimedia product experience is highly preferred.
Consolidated knowledge of plastic injection parts, sheet metal, diecast, related tooling, and 2nd process.
Experience in heat/thermal management
Expertise in PCB technology and layer-stack definition would be of advantage
In-Depth understanding of the automotive product design and development process
Experience with the automotive OEM vehicle development process for OEMs
Experience in the design and engineering of injection-molded plastic components
Experience using analytical tools such as ANSYS, Flo EFD, or Mold Flow
Experience using MS Office s/w, especially Excel and Power Point
Experience interfacing with customers and explain complex technical issues in English
Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills and the ability to clearly communicate complex issues regardless of audience.
