Senior WAN Engineer (Cisco Network Specialist) Fully Remote
Job Overview We are seeking a Senior WAN Engineer with deep expertise in WAN technologies to support our global financial services partner. This role requires a strong background in WAN operations, troubleshooting, and automation to ensure the high availability, performance, and security of the network. The ideal candidate will contribute to strategic projects, ensuring that the network infrastructure is robust, scalable, and aligned with the operational goals of the financial services organisation. Key Responsibilities WAN Operations & Troubleshooting: Manage and support WAN services, including MPLS, SD-WAN, VPNs, and Layer 2/3, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance. Troubleshoot complex Layer 2/3 WAN incidents within a financial services environment, ensuring business continuity. Oversee WAN routing protocols, such as BGP, EIGRP, and OSPF, to optimise network efficiency and minimise latency. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including network engineering, IT, and security, to deliver WAN solutions for large-scale projects. Lead the automation of WAN functions, streamlining processes and improving network performance. Project & Stakeholder Management: Act as a key technical advisor in WAN infrastructure projects, liaising with both internal teams and external stakeholders. Ensure compliance with financial industry regulations and standards across all WAN-related activities. Provide regular updates and reports on network health, performance metrics, and project statuses to senior stakeholders. Network Monitoring & Optimisation: Proactively monitor WAN infrastructure, identifying and addressing potential performance bottlenecks. Implement and maintain network monitoring tools, ensuring high visibility into WAN performance, latency, and packet loss. Drive continuous improvements to the WAN infrastructure, recommending enhancements to support business growth and resilience. Qualifications Extensive hands-on experience with WAN technologies, including MPLS, SD-WAN, VPN, and Layer 2/3 network configurations. Expertise in routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP) and their application within a large financial services environment. Proven ability to troubleshoot complex WAN issues under pressure, ensuring minimal impact on business-critical operations. Experience with network automation to optimise performance and streamline operations. Relevant certifications (eg, CCNP, CCIE) are highly desirable. Experience within financial services or other highly regulated environments is a strong plus. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. We are waiting confirmation on the daily rate.
