The role of a Master Data Business Process Owner (MD BPO) is a divisional position within the Business Process Excellence (BPE) Group and plays a critical role for all departments that rely heavily on accurate and consistent master data. This includes key information about customers, suppliers, products, finance attributes, and other data dimensions that are essential for the functioning of business processes. The MD BPO is responsible for managing the lifecycle of this data, ensuring it is effectively governed, and aligning it with business needs.
The role will drive operational efficiencies and financial returns for EMEA APAC through continuous improvement of MD processes and ensuring that data is used the right way the first time. In addition to that, the role will ensure that ongoing data validity is a sustained asset in the organization.
This role will have direct line accountability to the EMEA Business Process Excellence Director and dotted reported line to Global Business Process Owner Data. She/he will lead a small team of process experts.
Location: Bucharest (preferred) / EMEA
Travel required: 10% of the time
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support business case creation for Process Improvement Opportunities
- Identify process improvement opportunities across the division
- Gather data and baseline current process performance to substantiate business case creation for selected improvement initiatives
Monitor Process Performance & Identify Opportunities
- Monitor process performance and assist in resolving operational issues
- Support ongoing review of KPI process architecture and ensure process metrics are communicated and understood by all stakeholders impacting process outputs & proactively address negative KPI trends and propose corrective actions
Process design, Data Governance and System Management
- Collaborate with business units, DRA, Global BPE and IT teams to define data requirements and ensure data consistency across systems
- Define usage and governance of end-to-end processes for the full lifecycle of master data, in sync with global req and implement data governance strategies, policies and standards.
- Maintain roles and responsibilities matrix for adhering to global, regional, and facility data standards
- Develop data quality standards and ensure communication and adoption at divisional level, monitor and maintain data quality, accuracy, completeness, and compliance with regulations
- Act as the Delegated Design Authority (from Global BPE Data) to ensure impact of proposed process / system changes are evaluated and understood
- Support ongoing review and enrichment of process documentation (process maps, process catalogues, guidebooks, policies and procedures) and develop communication mechanisms with GBS operations and business unit for updates and process changes
- Create mechanism to continuously track, monitor and review deviations from process standards defined and documented
- Act as key resource for implementation and maintenance of MD systems and tools
- Ensure that SAP and connected technology supports the MD process effectively, work with IT to address system issues and improvements and work with BUs and GBS to address technology adoption gaps through trainings and change management
GBS center service delivery
- Through regular governance, ensure SLAs are met from both sides (client and GBS center)
- Review and approve by case Standard Operating Procedures, basis split of responsibilities agreed with countries
- Monitor operational incidents and co-create solutions along with GBS teams for service delivery incidents occurred
SKILLS AND RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum 10 years experience in data management, data governance, or related roles and minimum 5 years experience with SSC/GBS/BPO
- Experience in managing master data in a specific domain (e.g., finance, supply chain, customer data)
- Strong understanding of data management principles, data quality, data governance frameworks, and master data lifecycle management
- Experience in data modeling, data mapping, data profiling, and data cleansing.
- Experience working with SAP; involvement in SAP deployment projects considered a big plus
- Deep understanding of business processes across multiple functions (e.g., sales, marketing, supply chain, finance)
- Understanding of the impact of data quality on business performance and decision-making
- Strong project and change management skills with the ability to lead cross-functional initiatives
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate and communicate complex concepts to stakeholders at all levels of the organization and English proficiency level
- Proven track record of process optimization and implementing best practices to enhance efficiency and accuracy
Nice to have:
- Knowledge of SQL, data analytics, and basic scripting for data handling and reporting
- Proficiency in using data management tools and software (ex SAP MGD)
