JOB SUMMARY The Field Trainer directly works with farmers in establishing a one-hectare cacao farm and those with existing cacao trees. The primary function includes enrollment of cacao farmers in the project and providing the technical support for the maintenance and management of cacao farms. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES
Facilitates the selection of potential cacao growers/farmers for the project.
Identifies and assesses potential contract growing areas, farming communities, cooperatives, farmer leaders and growers in the area of operation.
Assists in the execution of agreement for cacao production and purchase, contract growing arrangement, seedling production, post-harvest facilities and other cacao farming practices.
Conducts regular visits to growers’ farms to monitor, the proper implementation of the standard protocols on good agricultural practices, related cacao farm operations, and cropping targets to ensure attainment of individual deliverables; and adherence of technological and farm information management systems.
Coordinates and works with partner organizations and growers on the appropriate application and monitoring of fertilizers and pesticides as well as proper storage and handling of such farm inputs for occupational health and safety.
Monitors field-related problems, pest and diseases and causes, and recommend necessary corrective and preventive measures.
Implements new technology as directed by supervisors to attain high farm productivity, quality and technological progress.
Facilitates growers’ requests for farm inputs and secures approval of the same from approving authority.
Assists in the build-up of the cacao development center.
Creates and fosters an effective support environment for cacao farmers by establishing a network of field technicians and service teams.
Plans for and assists in the establishment of the buying and postharvest operations and facilities.
Maintains harmonious relationships will all stakeholders of the cacao industry.
Recreates a professional and transparent working environment, provide regular reports and updates of the project.
Handles confidential and sensitive information, strategies and innovations being adopted by the partnerships (companies engaged in the project), including control of distribution, implementation and safekeeping of Cocoa Farming Technology and other documented instructions.
Supports the Partnerships’ overall goals by proper implementation of plant care and fruit care operations to achieve high productivity and quality; and by implementing corrective and preventive actions to address all fruit quality related problems.
Performs other tasks that may be assigned from time to time by the immediate supervisor and/or management.
