Senior Media Advisor (Parental Leave Cover) - NIWA

Do you want to join a highly regarded and well-resourced team communicating some of New Zealand's most important environmental science?
NIWA is New Zealand's leading provider of freshwater, marine and climate research and applied science services.
We're looking for a senior media advisor to be part of our award-winning team of communications professionals who tell the stories of NIWA scientists working from the bottom of the ocean to the top of the atmosphere and everything in between. This is a role of endless variety, where on any given day you could be communicating about penguins, climate change or how to count fish.

The Comms & Marketing team is based in Wellington, as is this role, and we also have staff at NIWA's main sites in Auckland, Hamilton and Christchurch.
You will:

ideally have a degree in science or communications, as well as 7-10 years' experience working as a journalist and/or in communications
be recognised for your flair and ability to make the complex simple and create compelling stories
be practiced at developing and implementing media strategies, building strong relationships, identifying great angles and managing communications risks
be able to communicate with a wide range of audiences using a variety of channels
enjoy being part of a close-knit and creative team.

Experience working within the science sector would be an advantage and an interest in our fascinating subject matter is a must.
