Ranger (Fixed Term)

He angitūtanga | About the role
You will be joining a positive and enthusiastic team delivering conservation outcomes in Greymouth. You will contribute to projects related to Heritage sites as well as projects surrounding infrastructure for visitors with the support of the team, to include:
  • managing assigned project work
  • maintaining both back country and front country tracks
  • maintaining back country huts, bridges, and other structures
  • assisting the biodiversity and wider teams when required
  • building and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders and internal staff
  • construction/ building work when required.

At times you will be required to stay away overnight for multiple days in the backcountry, often in remote and rugged terrain.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience
You will have practical, hands-on experience and the ability to tackle a variety of mahi. If you have the following attributes, we are keen to hear from you:
  • a full New Zealand Driver's licence, ideally with the ability to drive a manual
  • general maintenance and/or landscaping experience
  • proficient in using computer databases and mobile applications, with the ability to learn new systems quickly
  • a positive can-do attitude and excellent communications skills
  • an ability to work independently, use your initiative and be a team player.
  • physically fit with backcountry experience.
  • a strong health and safety focus.
Desirable:
  • carpentry/ construction skills and experience
  • experience in maintaining visitor facilities, tracks and structures
  • experience and qualifications with use of chainsaws, scrub bars, 4WDS, LUVs and helicopters

The salary range for this position is $58,816 to $66,578 with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.

You must seek the support of your line manager (minimum Tier 4) in writing before applying for a secondment opportunity and attach it to your application.
Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory – this includes holding a valid work visa that covers the whole period of employment.
