THE OPPORTUNITY:
We are looking for a podcast engineer, working in the newsroom in Auckland central, to lead the editing and engineering of The Front Page, the New Zealand Herald’s flagship news podcast. Our new team member will work with the host/producer in the studio and be responsible for editing one episode or more a day with a commitment to quality, ensuring a great listening experience. Editing other podcasts within the NZME network may also form part of the responsibilities.
This role will help to drive an increase in the quality and success of the Front Page podcast. HOW YOU'LL DO IT:
Produce and edit The Front Page Monday to Friday, working across the podcast from concept to final delivery.
Find interesting and informative clips to heighten episodes, contribute ideas for topics and question lines, and engaging music that varies across episodes.
Stay up to date with latest trends in audio, what is being covered by NZME news outlets and other organisations and how to keep our podcasts sounding fresh.
Comply with all broadcasting standards and practices, together with adherence to relevant company policy and practice.
ABOUT YOU:
A recognised journalism qualification and at least two years’ proven audio experience in a similar podcast role would be preferable. At a minimum, a keen interest in news and telling the stories Kiwis need to know.
Experience with managing talent and producing content.
Strong theoretical understanding of techniques involved in sound recording and editing equipment, software, CMS and other technical systems.
Understanding and knowledge of “fair use” audio provisions, Copyright Act and other legal considerations.
Leading-edge knowledge of digital tools, including social media.
