Our Opportunity: Are you looking to further your career in a learning or coaching role with your vast operational knowledge and experience? We have an opportunity as a Competency Development Specialist focusing on our hydro operations. This role will enable you to shape Mercury's front line operational future by utilising your comprehensive set of skills and qualifications to advance and develop our upcoming operators as they work through their training pathway. You'll work closely with the power station employees and collaborate with managers across all sites, ensuring key operational safety skills and competencies are the driving force to continuous improvement of Mercury's operational excellence outcomes. You'll have the opportunity to retain your practical skills by helping the team as required during key maintenance or scheduled work onsite. Mercury operates a flexible working environment providing you with the autonomy and trust to work flexibly from our purpose-built premises and from home, recognising the value of this flexibility in the modern world. While this role does require on-site presence, there is the flexibility to work approx. one day per week from home or work a nine-day fortnight (e.g. 9 hours per day across a fortnight).
Key responsibilities include:
Develop, undertake and deliver engaging training & assessment sessions on a variety of topics including plant operations, standard operating procedures, safety process, emergency and first response.
Review and ensure training material is up to date to meet competency requirements.
Accurately record, audit and manage records of employee training progress and seek out areas for further development.
Collaborate with stakeholders and training user groups to ensure continuous improvement of training processes and materials.
We are looking for:
Extensive experience in a generation operations environment, preferably within hydro
Working knowledge of plant operations, risk management and asset maintenance principles and practices, together with an understanding of power generation plant.
Stakeholder management and relationship-building abilities.
Strong mentor and coaching skills.
Experience working in learning & development, on-site training, or facilitation roles.
An understanding/passion for learning and development and future industry trends is desirable but not essential.
