Job Description

Background
Change Makers Resettlement Forum (CRF) is a rights-based, non-profit organization. Our vision is for New Zealanders from refugee backgrounds to participate fully in Aotearoa New Zealand societal life. We work towards that vision through community development, research, and advocacy.
Purpose of the position
The Community Engagement Coordinator will be responsible for the coordination and facilitation of community engagement events aimed to improve health and wellbeing outcomes for former refugees in Masterton and the Wairarapa. The Community Engagement Coordinator will help empower former refugees to take ownership of their health and wellbeing goals through community consultation, inclusion in decision-making, and increased knowledge and understanding of health and wellbeing, relevant service provision, and their entitlements to health care services.
Areas of Responsibility
  • Coordinate and facilitate community engagement with former refugees in Masterton/Wairarapa
  • Deliver a series of ‘wellbeing community engagement events’ for former refugees in Masterton/Wairarapa
  • Implement targeted activities and initiatives vital to improve health and well-being outcomes for former refugees, identified as vital through community engagement.
  • Support the refugee health navigation team in Masterton - working alongside the Clinical Lead/Case Manager and the Navigator for the Refugee Health Service to help former refugees access health and related support services in Masterton and the Wairarapa.
  • Work closely with the Project Manager for Refugee and Migrant Health in Masterton to determine the specifics of the initiatives and programmes to be delivered and to ensure these are culturally appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain strong links to people of refugee background across all communities, and to support them to engage with and participate in the targeted health and wellbeing initiatives.
  • Build and maintain connections with refugee resettlement sector stakeholders and service providers, enabling navigation and collaboration where appropriate to facilitate the best possible outcomes for refugee-background communities.
  • Reporting and data management: complete relevant programme reports as required, and in a timely manner, ensuring all records remain up to date.
  • Health, Safety and Wellbeing: follow all Health, Safety and Wellbeing Policies and practices, and report any Health and Safety related incidents as per CRF Health and Safety policy.
  • Professional Development: Participate in professional development as required and discussed through performance appraisals to ensure best practice in the role.

Desirable Experience and Key Attributes
  • Previous experience as a coordinator/event manager or similar
  • Strong relationship building and communication skills across diverse communities/cultures
  • High level of cultural competency and intercultural communication skills
  • The ability to empathise and identify with the needs of refugee background community members
  • Strong organizational/administrative skills and the ability to function well under time pressure
  • Proactivity, adaptability, and strong multitasking capability
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends regularly
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Reliability and professionalism
  • Good level of written and verbal English communication skills
  • Clear Police and Ministry of Justice vetting is a necessity for this role

Job Type: Part-time
Pay: From $31.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 per week
