Clinical Psychologist - Perinatal Mental Health

Where you’ll be working: Waiora CBD, Anglesea Street, Hamilton
The details: Fixed term to 29 August 2025 – full time 40 hours per week

Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for a clinical psychologist within the Perinatal Mental Health Service. In this role, you will work within a dynamic multi-disciplinary team and be responsible for completing psychological assessments, therapy and supporting a recovery-based journey through the service for tāngata whaiora and their whanau.
The Perinatal Mental Health team work with pregnant people or those with infants in their first year of life who present with moderate to severe mental health challenges that presented during this period. We aim to do this is in a culture of caring – for each other: ourselves, tangata whaiora, their whānau and communities, and our sector partners.

We are a team of experienced, specialised health professionals skilled in helping the birthing parent with mental health conditions related to having a baby. Our team offers assessment, treatment and advice for women who have developed a mental illness during the perinatal period or have an ongoing or previous mental health disorder.

We take a holistic approach, working with both the pregnant person and those with infants in their first year of life, together with their partners, whaanau, and services and health providers involved in their care.

Health NZ | Te Whatu Ora will shape the delivery of Health services in Aotearoa New Zealand for generations to come, and will form the core of a modern and integrated service looking after the needs of all our Whānau.

Mōu | About you
As a perinatal mental health psychologist, you will work with pregnant people or those with infants in their first year of life. By intervening with the parent, you have the opportunity to help change the whole family system at a crucial time.

The successful applicant will need good psychological skills and knowledge alongside the ability to work within teams and systems.

Required skills & experience you will need to be considered for this role:
  • NZPB registration as a clinical psychologist
  • A current practising certificate
  • Ability to work in positions of responsibility, demonstrating assessment skills and independent decision-making
  • Knowledge and understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi
  • Full driver’s licence
