We are a retail bakery café in Pukekohe, and we are looking for a full time sole-charge Baker. This is a great opportunity for someone with at least 3 years’ bakery experience to make their mark.
To be successful in the role you will have experience baking bread, pies, donuts, cakes and birthday cakes. You should also be able to make your own pastry and fillings.
Our bakery is open 7 days a week, and you would start work at 3.30 am so most baked goods are prepared and ready when we open. The expected work week is 30-40 hours a week depending on roaster. Hourly rate, dependent on skills level and experience, is in the range of $29.66-$32 per hour.
As the only Baker in the business apart from the owner this is a sole charge position. You will be working unsupervised, and we therefore need someone who has experience working on their own for a retail bakery and who can effectively manage large production volumes of different items. Shop sales and front of house are managed by other staff, so you will not be dealing with the public.
As a sole charge Baker your responsibilities include
Prepare all raw materials, check the quality and weigh all ingredients
Check and clean all equipment and premises before production to ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations
Mature, knead, cut, mould, mix and shape dough and pastry goods
Prepare all pastry fillings
Determine baking times by monitoring oven temperatures and periodically checking products in the oven
Perform and coordinate the forming, loading, baking, unloading and de-panning and cooling of products in batches
Glaze pastries, buns and breads and decorate cakes with cream and icing
Operate machines for rolling and moulding dough and biscuit cutting
Clean and empty pans, grease trays, tins and other cooking equipment
Ensure all baking equipment and utensils are properly cleaned and stored at the end of each working day
Qualifications/Work Experience:
You must have either a relevant Level 4 qualification OR at least 3 years of relevant
experience in a commercial bakery, café, restaurant, hotel, or similar establishment
