Mō te tīma / About our team
The Office for Seniors is the primary advisor to the Government on issues affecting older people, located within the Ministry of Social Development (MSD). Our vision is that older New Zealanders lead valued, connected and fulfilling lives - kia noho ora tonu ngā kaumātua. We work to improve the lives of older people across the country by promoting the wellbeing and concerns of seniors and increasing awareness of the issues facing our ageing population.

Our work includes:
  • supporting the Minister for Seniors
  • progressing the implementation of the Better Later Life strategy
  • piloting innovative initiatives to support older people in the community
  • raising awareness about elder abuse
  • progressing an Age friendly Aotearoa
  • conducting ageing research
  • stakeholder engagement and communication

Te āhua o te tūranga / About the role
We are seeking an Advisor to work in our fast paced and dynamic environment. The role offers an opportunity to accrue experience in strategy, policy and population analysis.
You will be responsible for developing advice on a range of issues related to our older population, as well as implementing solutions, drafting correspondence, working with community stakeholders and colleagues across government departments. You will be responsible for a specific set of policy issues within the Office's wider work programme. You will also contribute on an ad-hoc basis to all of our work. We're a small team, so we have to be flexible!

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako / Skills and experience
  • Confidence in analysis and experience advising on a wide range of policy and strategic issues
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing for a variety of audiences, including Ministers, officials and the public
  • Ability to draw on data and information to support analysis
  • Strong skills coordinating and influencing across diverse government and non-government stakeholders
  • A team player who takes initiative
A small amount of ad-hoc travel may be required.

Salary range: $78,222.00 - $94,689.00
