Physics Internship: Spectral Measurement Methods for Soft X-Ray Metrology
Introduction
Are you a master student in Physics, Mathematics or a related field looking for a graduation or apprentice internship? Do you have good understanding of MATLAB and have experience with optics and semiconductor physics? Then this internship might be interesting for you!
Background information
In order to control chip fabrication processes, metrology tools are used within the semiconductor industry to inspect multiple parameters of the fabrication process. Generally, these metrology tools are based on optical measurements. Next-generation metrology tools may require radiation in the soft x-ray regime (SXR, wavelength below 20 nm) to characterize the ever-shrinking structure sizes in integrated circuits. In this thesis we propose to investigate a challenge related to this type of metrology.
Your assignment
Precise knowledge of the source radiation used in the metrology tool is important for application of the tool. In order to acquire this information, a complex SXR spectrometer needs to be designed. However, multiple challenges arise in the design of these spectrometers.
The goal of this project is to design an SXR spectrometer. Expected activities include:
Designing and modelling of an optical diffraction grating to design the most optimal spectrometer.
Developing an algorithm that may be used to address the challenges in SXR spectral measurements.
Characterization and benchmarking of the proposed design.
Your Profile
To be a perfect match for this internship, you:
Are a master student in Physics, Mathematics or a related field.
Have experience with optics and a good understanding of MATLAB.
Have experience with semiconductor physics nice to have and mathematics. Experience with python is a nice to have.
Are eager to learn with analytical skills and a critical attitude.
Have strong communication skills and are fluent in English both verbally and in writing.
This is a master graduation or apprentice internship with a duration of a minimum of 6 months, for 4-5 days a week, starting as soon as possible.
Please note that we can only consider students who are enrolled at an educational institution for the entire duration of the internship.
