Customs Calculator Guidance & Development Support:

Provide Expert Knowledge: Act as the subject matter expert (SME) on customs duties, tariffs, and trade regulations, offering guidance to the development team to ensure that all customs-related features in the calculator are accurate.
Error-Free Design: Ensure that the customs clearance calculators are designed with 0% error tolerance by validating the inputs and outputs of the system against actual customs procedures and laws.
Documentation Review: Review and recommend improvements to customs calculation algorithms, ensuring correct interpretation of variables such as HS codes, tariffs, taxes, duties, and free trade agreements.
Tech Specification Support: Work closely with developers to provide clear and accurate specifications for implementing real-time duty calculations, including product classification and cross-border tax systems.

Accuracy Validation & Testing:

Testing Framework: Design a robust testing framework for customs tools, running simulations of international shipments to identify potential calculation errors and fix inaccuracies.
Edge Cases Identification: Identify and document edge cases and complex scenarios where customs or trade laws vary, ensuring that the system handles these scenarios correctly.
Benchmarking: Continuously benchmark the customs calculator’s performance against real-world shipping cases to ensure ongoing compliance and precision.

Regulatory Monitoring & System Updates:

Real-Time Data Integration: Advise on how to integrate real-time customs duty data, tariff updates, and HS code changes into the system using APIs or other data sources.
Legislative Changes: Provide updates on new trade agreements, regulations, or duty changes that may affect calculator accuracy, and work with developers to reflect these in real-time.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

Liaison with Tech Team: Collaborate with the development team by offering expert advice on trade compliance and customs issues. Translate complex regulatory requirements into clear, actionable guidance for developers.
Clear Communication: Act as the bridge between the business, product, and tech teams, ensuring all teams are aligned on customs compliance needs and the technical implementation of those needs.

Quality Control & Continuous Improvement:

Feedback Loops: Set up processes to collect feedback from users (both internal and external) on the customs calculators' performance, ensuring continuous improvement.
Error Elimination Strategy: Develop and refine strategies to eliminate potential calculation errors, including automating certain validation processes for added accuracy.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

Customs Expertise:
5+ years of experience in international trade compliance, customs brokerage, or global logistics with a deep understanding of duties, taxes, tariffs, and HS codes.
Strong familiarity with customs duty calculations and the classification of products under international trade laws.
Technical Understanding:
Experience working with tech teams to integrate trade compliance systems, especially within an e-commerce or B2B platform context.
Ability to translate complex trade laws into technical requirements for developers.
Analytical Skills:
Strong attention to detail in analyzing customs data and ensuring error-free integration into the system.
Experience with data validation, ensuring that all outputs from the calculator are accurate and compliant with real-world scenarios.
Collaboration and Communication:
Proven experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, particularly technical teams.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex regulatory issues in a simple, understandable way for non-experts.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in building or working with customs calculation tools or logistics platforms.
Certifications in customs brokerage, international trade compliance (e.g., CUSECO, CTCS), or related fields.
Knowledge of APIs, data integration methods, and automation of trade compliance tasks.

Soft Skills:

Problem-solving mindset with a focus on accuracy and minimizing errors.
Proactive approach in anticipating changes in trade regulations and ensuring systems are updated accordingly.
High level of detail orientation and commitment to ensuring the calculator operates flawlessly under all conditions.
