Leadership Responsibilities:
Participate as an integral member of the NAM HR to help deliver Diageo’s Performance Ambition and Inclusion and Diversity agenda.
Provide strategic thought partner support to the relevant HR and business colleagues to lead compliance as well as provide a positive employee/labor relations experience for all North America Diageo employees! Build and maintain excellent relationships with business partners across the business and ensure excellent and consistent support as the COE (Center of Excellence) for this area.
Purpose of Role:
You will be an objective partner to HRBPs and managers within the Diageo North America business to resolve employee relations issues, including, investigations, performance management, and provide expert consultation. You will also ensure consistent and equitable treatment of employees, provide policy interpretation, including immigration and relocation support, and make recommendations/implement new policies and programs that facilitate education, awareness, and positive employee relations. You will also provide labor relations support for unionized employees.

Complexity of Role:
- Responsible for maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements including federal, state and provincial laws, Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), National Labor Relations Act (NLRA); American Disabilities Act as Amended (ADAAA), and US and Canadian Immigration laws, policies and regulations;
- Works within large multi-national corporation, including working with global shared services centers;
- Provides support to entire Diageo North America population (United States, Canada and USVI), across multiple sites, functions and categories of employees, including in unionized and non-unionized environments;
- Must have ability to expertly coach and influence HRBPs and line managers, both in-person and remotely, regarding sophisticated and sensitive employee relations issues, as well as provide counsel and support to employees, in order to achieve resolutions that are fair for employees and aligned with business goals;
- Collate and analyze statistics, identify trends or risks and create a plan to address them.
- Ability to move between tactical and critical thinking in employee relations arena and determine solutions to suit business needs.
Key Outputs:
- Conduct detailed investigations, appropriately document, develop findings of fact and makes appropriate remedial recommendations to the Conduct Review Committee to maintain compliance with Company policy, employment laws and regulations;
- Build and implement performance management process and ensure all appropriate documentation and recordation of same;
- Provide accurate and timely advice on Absence Management, Unemployment, Worker’s Compensation, Immigration, Relocation and Dynamic Disciplinary issues as the need arises;
- Make recommendations regarding new processes and policies or change to current processes and policies, assessing needs and facilitating improvements in order to meet organizational objectives;
- Drive consistencies in investigations, PIPs, Absence Management, Unemployment, Worker’s Compensation and Dynamic Disciplinary and Grievance issues as required across North America.
- Build and provide trainings and regular COE updates for key partners.
- Assist in driving the Labor Strategy for supply sites and ensuring efficiency and agility with labor relations actions.
- Build and drive a positive, engaging Employee Relations strategy.
Qualifications and Experience Required:
- Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience; preferably additional law degree or paralegal certificate.
- 8+ years’ experience, preferably in the areas of employee relations, labor relations, case management or HR business partnering;
- In depth knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements regarding employee relations and employment law required;
- Experience driving sophisticated employee relations issues, including claims of harassment, discrimination and EEO complaints or investigations;
- Outstanding organizational, partnership, communication, business judgment, decision making and time leadership skills;
- Demonstrated ability to establish credibility as a trusted advisor and confidant to HRBPS and managers;
- Strategic policy, project and program management experience;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills required, including conflict resolution and mediation skills
- Leadership experience crafting and maintaining positive relationship with key business partners, including executives.
