The Department
The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) and The Louth/Meath Educational Training Board (LMETB) collaborate in the delivery of a Local Training Initiative (LTI). The Dundalk Player Development Course utilises the powerful attraction of football to engage unemployed people with mainstream education. The FAI and LMETB have teamed up to deliver a Training Programme targeted at aspiring young football players and are seeking to appoint a Coordinator for the LTI programme which will be based in the DKIT Training Facility.
All training provided is at QQI Level 5 – Sport and Recreation. The component modules are as follows: Sport and Recreation Studies, Exercise and Fitness, Communications, First Aid, Work Experience, Sports Anatomy & Physiology, Teamworking, Personal Effectiveness, Nutrition & Soccer Coaching. Additional FAI award modules are also provided and other training may also be considered.
The Responsibilities of the ETB Assistant Coordinator
Assist in the running, promotion and implementation of a full-time programme.
Develop, review, evaluate and the overall management of course tutors and the programme in consultation with the learners, LMETB, FAI, staff, external tutors and other stakeholders.
Assist the coordinator to recruit, test, assess and register participants for the programme to include liaising with local community groups, League of Ireland clubs, schoolboy clubs, local underage junior clubs, schools at Leaving Certificate level, and early school leavers to identify future course participants.
Delivery of the centre programme, including curriculum development, discipline, administration of certification procedures, organisation of work experience, networking with other co-ordinators and centres, and organisation of guidance and counselling support.
Assist in the procurement of supplies and services required for the day-to-day running of the programme.
Plan, monitor and oversee all education and training activities as assigned.
Ensure training complies with TQAS, QQI, ITEC quality assurance.
Working with the coordinator in the supervision of staff, staff development, team formation and leadership.
Identify QQI-accreditation opportunities and facilitate learners in pursuing and achieving a QQI major award.
Specific Duties
Management and smooth running of the ETB programme.
Responsible for the welfare and overall wellbeing of the trainees, including trainees who have returned from playing abroad, having been released by their club.
Delivery and evaluation of modules for the programme.
Deliver a number of modules for a QQI Level 5 Major Award in Sport & Recreation Studies as required and internal verification (IV) of all modules.
Provide individual support and guidance to all course participants.
Evaluate learners’ progress with regular group and individual sessions.
Develop individual learning plans (ILPs) with learners and facilitate progression to other forms of training, education, or employment.
Partake in the review of the programme on an annual basis and implement programme improvement goals.
Control and monitor all of the equipment and resources needed to deliver the programme effectively.
Hold regular meetings with the co-ordinator to develop ongoing work plans / schedules to ensure smooth management of the project.
Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time, or as the programme evolves, as requested by LMETB and the FAI.
Other Duties
Implement health and safety and child protection procedures as per current legislation.
Cover ETB co-ordinator when required.
Key Skills Required
The ideal candidate will demonstrate
A relevant recognised third level academic qualification and/or recognition of prior learning.
A track record of working with male and female learners over the age of 16, from marginalised and socio-economically disadvantaged areas, and those with behavioural challenges.
Experience of delivering and of coordinating the delivery of QQI modules at Level 5 by external staff to groups of 24 - 32 learners.
Experience of ETB Quality Assurance Systems and managing QQI accreditation.
Competence in IT systems, including MS Teams, MS Office, and social media for course promotion.
Knowledge of local and regional football structures and professional player pathways.
Full driving licence.
An understanding of the promotion of Social Inclusion through Sport.
Knowledge of the role of the local statutory and voluntary sectors in relation to sports development.
An understanding of the National Framework of Qualifications, current FAI Player Development Pathway and Coach Development Pathway, FAI Strategic Plans including the FAI Football Pathways Plan.
Proven qualification in and track record of athletic development, particularly at UEFA B coaching level and a recognised training qualification minimum QQI Level 6 Train The Trainer.
Proven track record in administration and excellent organisational skills.
Possess good verbal and written communications.
Proven self-initiative.
Education
Have a third level academic qualification (a qualification in a Sports related area would be an advantage)
Have a recognised Training Qualification (minimum Train the Trainer QQI level 6)

A strong interest in football and a nationally recognised football coaching qualification is essential (UEFA A level or higher would be an advantage).
