Workplace Health and Safety Representative Job Description Job Summary: The Workplace Health and Safety Representative is responsible for promoting and ensuring a safe and healthy work environment for all employees. This role involves identifying, assessing, and mitigating potential hazards, ensuring compliance with relevant health and safety regulations, and fostering a culture of safety within the organization. Key Responsibilities:
Hazard Identification and Assessment:
Conduct regular workplace inspections to identify potential hazards.
Assess the severity and likelihood of risks associated with identified hazards.
Develop and implement control measures to mitigate hazards.
Safety Training and Education:
Develop and deliver safety training programs to employees at all levels.
Promote awareness of health and safety policies, procedures, and regulations.
Provide guidance and support to employees on safety matters.
Incident Investigation and Reporting:
Investigate workplace accidents and incidents to determine the root causes.
Implement corrective actions to prevent similar incidents from occurring.
Prepare and submit incident reports to relevant authorities.
Compliance Management:
Ensure compliance with all applicable health and safety regulations, standards, and legislation.
Maintain up-to-date records of safety inspections, training, and incident investigations.
Coordinate with regulatory bodies and authorities as required.
Safety Committee Participation:
Actively participate in the workplace safety committee, contributing to the development and implementation of safety initiatives.
Represent the interests of employees on safety matters.
Emergency Preparedness:
Develop and maintain emergency response plans.
Conduct regular emergency drills and training exercises.
Coordinate emergency response efforts during incidents.
Qualifications and Skills:
Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety or a related field.
Certification in occupational health and safety (e.g., OHSAS 18001 Lead Auditor).
Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations and standards.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Experience in conducting safety audits and inspections.
