Pastoral care
The Matron / Warden fulfils the expectations of students as a parent figure and therefore must ensure physical, mental, emotional well being of the students under her/his care.
S/he must:
Welcome students at the beginning of a term.
Be accessible to students for their needs/ worries at all reasonable hours.
Ensure students report for all activities regularly as per the school schedule.
Keep track of absenteeism, if any.
Ensure the development of desirable qualities/habits/ skills in students ( timeliness, punctuality, cleanliness, tidiness, personal hygiene, smart dressing, healthy eating, courtesy, avoiding wastage, respect etc)
Ensure daily collection and delivery of emails etc.
Keep track of students’ expenditure of pocket money as per school guidelines.
Authorize student chits judiciously.
Cleanliness, Housekeeping & Maintenance
Ensure naming/labelling of all clothes and other personal effects.
Ensure all clothes are fit enough to be worn.
Arrange for the repair of clothing, if required.
Ensure cleaning of uniform and other pieces of clothing to satisfactory levels.
Ensure that the dorms, rooms are kept tidy.
Ensure students follow the rota of chores diligently.
Ensure fixtures and fittings are in proper condition.
Submit job requests for repairs at the hostel when required.
Supervise and ensure repair work is completed thoroughly.
Maintain records, inventories as required by the Bursar / Head of Administration.
Medical Matters
Ensure the medical wellbeing of the students.
Be aware of simple safety and first aid procedures.
Maintain a record of student medication in consultation with the nursing staff.
Ensure students take their medicines as prescribed in the right quantities and at the right time.
Ensure the safekeeping of medication inappropriate storage.
Maintain a daily log of all complaints dealt with.
Work closely with the infirmary and be aware of procedures to be followed in case of emergency/mishap etc.
Escort students for hospital appointments.
Determine the fitness of students for outdoor activities etc in consultation with the nursing staff.
Working Relationships
Discuss issues with parents if they so require over the telephone or in person.
Work with nursing staff on health matters.
Work with Pastoral Head, Housemasters, Resident Tutors on pastoral matters.
Work with the Bursar, housekeeping and maintenance staff on administrative issues.
