Project Brief
ECD initiatives in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh aim to enhance child development, early learning and stimulation activities, nutrition and health services for children aged 0–3 years. They also focus on early identification, assessment, management and referral of children with developmental delays. The objectives include supporting pilot interventions, scaling up efforts, and establishing linkages for referrals to primary, secondary, and tertiary health systems. Keeping the above in mind, we have developed MCP card-based decision support algorithms for frontline workers to aid in preliminary assessment of children and early intervention at the community level and facilitate referrals to higher centers. Taking it further, we plan to digitize the decision support algorithms from the existing job aid manual and integrate it with a video-based AI tool to provide assistance for tele-assessment and referral of children needing further management and support. This, in conjunction with a mobile-based application for parents and caregivers, will help parents to monitor the developmental milestones of their children and act as an interface between families at the community level and the health system for referral and follow-up of children needing further support.
Deliverables:
- Collection of videos of children exhibiting age-specific milestones corresponding to those listed in MCP card,
- Analysis of videos by Child development experts
- Digitize the MCP card-based decision support algorithms and develop an AI based tool for early identification of developmental delays based on above video analysis.
