The Head of Department (HOD) of Psychology will be responsible for providing academic leadership and strategic direction to the department. The HOD will oversee faculty management, curriculum development, and research initiatives while ensuring that the department remains at the forefront of forensic science education and research. The role requires collaboration with academic, governmental, and industrial bodies to foster interdisciplinary initiatives, enhance student learning, and maintain high standards of teaching and research. Key Responsibilities: Leadership & Management: Provide visionary leadership to the department, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and policies. Manage faculty and staff, including recruitment, development, and performance evaluations. Oversee departmental budgets, resources, and infrastructure requirements. Curriculum Development & Teaching: Lead curriculum development and review processes to ensure it reflects industry standards and scientific advancements. Foster innovative teaching methodologies and ensure quality assurance across all forensic science programs. Coordinate with faculty to ensure up-to-date course material and assessments. Supervise teaching loads and contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching as required. Research & Innovation: Promote and facilitate high-quality research activities within the department, including interdisciplinary research and collaboration with external partners. Secure research funding through grants, collaborations, and partnerships. Encourage faculty and students to engage in publications, conferences, and research projects relevant to forensic science. Industry Engagement & Partnerships: Build and maintain relationships with forensic science laboratories, law enforcement agencies, and other relevant industries to facilitate internships, placements, and research collaborations. Establish advisory boards comprising professionals from the forensic and legal sectors to guide curriculum relevance. Organize industry workshops, guest lectures, and seminars. Student Development: Monitor student progress and ensure the provision of academic support, mentoring, and career guidance. Ensure a positive learning environment that promotes the development of Psychology competencies, critical thinking, and ethical practices. Promote student involvement in research projects and professional organizations. Quality Assurance & Accreditation: Ensure that all programs meet internal and external quality assurance standards. Lead efforts to attain and maintain program accreditation with relevant accrediting bodies. Coordinate departmental audits, reviews, and reports. Strategic Planning: Develop and implement the strategic plan for the department in alignment with the institution’s broader goals. Assess departmental needs, including faculty development, infrastructure, and curriculum evolution. Identify and act upon emerging trends in Psychology education and research. Administration: Represent the department in institutional meetings and committees. Ensure smooth day-to-day functioning of the department, including class schedules, exams, and faculty support. Prepare and present reports on departmental performance to senior management. Key Qualifications: Academic Qualifications: Ph D in Psychology, or a closely related field. Experience: At least 8-10 years of academic experience in Psychology, including teaching and research, with 3-5 years in a leadership/management role. Research: Proven track record in forensic science research, including publications in peer-reviewed journals and successful grant applications. Skills: Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Industry Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of Psychology techniques, tools, and methodologies. Networking: Ability to build relationships with external stakeholders including forensic experts, law enforcement agencies, and academic institutions.
