Reports To: MRT Manager Job Summary: The Medical Record Technician (MRT) is responsible for managing, organizing, and maintaining patient records in accordance with legal and organizational standards. The MRT ensures the accuracy, confidentiality, and accessibility of medical records, supporting healthcare providers and contributing to high-quality patient care. Key Responsibilities:
Record Management:
Accurately create, update, and maintain patient medical records in electronic and/or paper formats.
Ensure records are complete, accurate, and compliant with healthcare regulations and organizational policies.
Data Entry and Documentation:
Enter patient information, treatment details, and other relevant data into electronic health record (EHR) systems.
Verify the accuracy of data entered and make corrections as necessary.
Confidentiality and Compliance:
Maintain patient confidentiality and protect sensitive information in compliance with HIPAA and other applicable regulations.
Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures related to record-keeping and data privacy.
Record Retrieval and Filing:
Retrieve and file patient records efficiently, ensuring proper storage and accessibility.
Facilitate the retrieval of records for authorized personnel and manage requests for record copies.
Quality Assurance:
Conduct regular audits of medical records to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Implement and adhere to best practices for record management and data entry.
Technology Utilization:
Operate and maintain electronic health record (EHR) systems and other relevant technologies.
Stay current with advancements in medical record technology and suggest improvements as needed.
Reporting and Analysis:
Generate reports related to medical records and patient data as required by management.
Analyze data trends to support decision-making and improve record-keeping practices.
Qualifications:
Education: Associate’s degree in Health Information Management, Medical Records Technology, or a related field; or equivalent experience.
Experience: Previous experience in medical record management or a related field is preferred.
Skills:
Proficiency in EHR systems and medical record software.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
Strong understanding of medical terminology and healthcare regulations.
Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with healthcare professionals.
