MECHANICAL HOD FOR SPONGE IRON PLANT WITH CAPACITY OF 100 TPH To lead the mechanical department in the effective and efficient maintenance, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of all mechanical equipment in a Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) plant to ensure maximum plant availability, safety, and production targets are met. Key Responsibilities:
Maintenance Management:
Plan and oversee preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance of all mechanical equipment.
Ensure timely repair and maintenance of equipment such as rotary kilns, coolers, compressors, fans, and conveyors.
Monitor the mechanical health of critical equipment and implement condition-based monitoring techniques.
Team Leadership:
Lead, mentor, and manage the mechanical team (engineers, supervisors, technicians).
Foster a culture of teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement within the department.
Conduct regular performance reviews and provide training to staff.
Plant Operations Support:
Collaborate with production and other departments to ensure mechanical systems run smoothly.
Address mechanical breakdowns quickly to minimize production downtime.
Optimize equipment performance to achieve production targets, improve efficiency, and reduce costs.
Project Management:
Lead and oversee mechanical projects, including equipment upgrades, modifications, and installations.
Coordinate with external contractors and vendors for specialized maintenance and services.
Ensure that all mechanical work adheres to safety, quality, and environmental standards.
Budgeting and Resource Management:
Develop and manage the department’s budget, including expenditures for maintenance, spare parts, and manpower.
Ensure the timely procurement and availability of critical spares and materials.
Work on cost reduction initiatives without compromising quality and safety.
Compliance & Safety:
Ensure that all mechanical operations are compliant with safety standards and government regulations.
Conduct risk assessments, ensure the safety of equipment, and maintain safety protocols across the department.
Implement and monitor plant safety, reliability, and regulatory requirements.
Reporting & Documentation:
Prepare and submit detailed reports on mechanical performance, downtime analysis, and maintenance activities to senior management.
Ensure proper documentation and history of all equipment is maintained.
Use Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) for recording data.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
Plant equipment availability and reliability.
Downtime reduction and adherence to maintenance schedules.
Team performance and skill development.
Compliance with safety standards and plant regulations.
Maintenance cost optimization.
This role demands a highly experienced mechanical engineer with leadership capabilities to ensure smooth operations of the DRI plant's mechanical aspects while focusing on efficiency, safety, and cost control.
Technical Skills:
In-depth knowledge of DRI plant operations, equipment maintenance, and mechanical systems.
Familiarity with rotary kilns, compressors, pumps, conveyors, and related heavy machinery.
Proficiency in CMMS software for maintenance planning and tracking.
Soft Skills:
Strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
QUALIFICATION
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum 10-15 years of experience in mechanical maintenance within the sponge iron or metallurgical industry, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
