Fire & Safety Officer
A Fire & Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of people, property, and the environment by implementing and overseeing fire prevention measures and safety protocols. Their duties typically include: Key Responsibilities:
Fire Prevention:
Conduct fire risk assessments and identify potential fire hazards.
Implement fire safety plans, fire drills, and evacuation procedures.
Ensure that fire protection systems (fire alarms, sprinklers, extinguishers) are regularly inspected and maintained.
Safety Inspections:
Perform regular safety audits to ensure compliance with local and international safety standards.
Inspect safety equipment (e.g., personal protective equipment (PPE), first aid kits).
Ensure that emergency exits, signage, and fire routes are clear and accessible.
Training & Education:
Conduct safety and fire training sessions for employees, teaching fire safety practices and emergency procedures.
Develop and implement fire and safety awareness campaigns.
Emergency Response:
Serve as the first point of contact during fire emergencies or accidents.
Coordinate emergency response teams and assist in evacuation efforts.
Liaise with fire departments and emergency services when necessary.
Compliance & Reporting:
Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations (OSHA or equivalent).
Maintain records of fire drills, inspections, and incidents.
Investigate fire incidents and report findings, proposing corrective actions.
Safety Planning & Policies:
Develop fire safety policies and risk management strategies.
Review and update safety procedures in accordance with new regulations and technology.
Skills and Qualifications:
Educational Background: A diploma or degree in fire safety, occupational health, or environmental safety. Some may also have certification as a Fire Safety Manager or Fire Marshal.
Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with fire prevention systems, first aid, emergency response techniques, and relevant safety standards.
Communication Skills: Ability to conduct training and communicate safety procedures clearly.
Attention to Detail: Strong ability to assess risks and implement proactive measures.
Leadership: Able to lead emergency response teams and manage safety programs.
