Wabanaki Wellness Coordinator

Under One Sky is a vibrant and caring community hub, providing programs and services, educating, advocating for, and empowering a healthy and proud Indigenous Community. Under One Sky invites applications for a Wabanaki Wellness Coordinator to support our growing organization.
The Opportunity:
The position of Wabanaki Wellness Coordinator will collaborate with the Sakolomolsowakon Family Wellness Program (SFWP) to deliver land-based programming for 2SLGBTQI+ individuals, families of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG), men and boys. Traditional land-based activities will be the foundation of this program, involving Elders, and Traditional Knowledge Holders and Indigenous Artists.

Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate traditional land-based programming for families of MMIWG, members of the 2SLGBTQI+ community, men and boys. Mentoring will be provided by the Wabanaki Wellness Program Lead.
  • Build and maintain relationships with Elders, Traditional Knowledge Holders and Indigenous Artists to support future collaboration for workshops and events.
  • Develop workshops and events centered on traditional land-based activities, such as drum making, hunting, basket weaving, tracking, and traditional cooking, by involving Elders, and Knowledge Holders and Indigenous Artists.
  • Coordinate and communicate with Elders, and Knowledge Holders and Indigenous Artists to arrange transportation, meals, and accommodations for land-based learning field trips.
  • Create and ensure a safe learning environment indoors and outdoors for artists, participants and elders to do ceremony, teach and share traditional skills and knowledge.
  • Conduct community outreach to promote traditional land-based programming, attract participants, and advertise workshops and events through social media platforms.
  • Work with artists to source and prepare materials and/or equipment.
  • Facilitate communication between Elders, Traditional Knowledge Holders and Indigenous Artists and our internal team to coordinate contracts for professional services.
  • Regular collaboration with the Sakolomolsowakon Family Wellness Program (SFWP).
  • Organize debrief and planning meetings with land-based learning team and others as required.
  • Oversee project data collection and evaluation for events and workshops, including tracking participant numbers and gathering feedback for continuous improvement.
Essential Skills/Qualifications/Experience:
  • Passion for Indigenous culture, language, ceremony, and knowledge.
· Experience in relationship and partnership development with Indigenous communities and organizations, provincial, federal, and private sectors.
  • Experience communicating with a diversity of people from different backgrounds, ages and abilities.
  • Experience working as part of a team.
  • Experience developing and delivering projects or programs.
  • Experience or willingness to be trained in Reporting and Project Management.
· A Criminal Background/Vulnerable Sector and Social Development check is required.
