In this role, you will be responsible for:
Safe and prudent operation of IEMS vehicle.
Supporting and assisting clients /patients while placing in or removing from the vehicle.
Safely moving patients from bed to stretcher/wheelchair or while moving on stretcher or wheelchair.
Interacting professionally at all times with employees of IEMS and stakeholders.
Operating all system and company vehicles in accordance with Prince Edward Island laws as well as all applicable Policies and Proce
dures and Safe Work Practices of IEMS.
Completing all work-related documentation required by management within required time frames.
Maintaining on-going cleanliness of vehicle, station, and/or premises during scheduled shift.
Practicing good hygiene and demonstrating socially accepted customer service skills when interacting with clients, family members, other emergency services, colleagues and with the general public.
Displaying decision-making capability and taking initiative as needed.
Operating of communications equipment and interacting with Medical Communication Centre, as needed.
Practicing effective infection control measures including the use of personal protective equipment.
Checking and visually inspecting vehicle daily and for pre-trip awareness.
Operating vehicle and practicing defensive driving techniques while following traffic laws at all times.
Assessing and monitoring vehicle operating conditions, and report issues.
Monitoring passengers to ensure their safety and contacting the Medical Communications Centre for assistance as needed.
Maintaining a high degree of discretion and confidentiality as transport of any client/passenger using this service falls within our Privacy mandate.
Performing other such similar, comparable or related duties required or assigned.
Providing medical assistance as required under the direction of the paramedic they will be assigned with.
As the ideal candidate for this position, you:
Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
Posses a valid Class 4 driver’s license with the province of Prince Edward Island (or equivalent) or willing to obtain prior to hire date.
Must have a safe driving record.
Will be required to provide a criminal record check including a vulnerable sector check.
Have additional courses centering around driver education would be considered an asset.
Current First Aid qualification including AED or willing to complete training prior to start. Willing to take additional training.
Have experience transporting clients, larger vehicles is considered an asset.
Possess a Medical First Responder or Advanced First Aid training is considered an asset.
Are required to pass a physical abilities test prior to employment for lifting and moving patients.
Have excellent customer service and communication skills.
Have the ability to conduct yourself in a safe and prudent manner at all times.
Use good judgement, decision making and problem solving when managing daily developments.
Have strong interpersonal skills to build good working relationships with internal and external partners to achieve common goals.
Have a positive attitude, excellent time management, task planning and prioritization skills.
Possess the ability and commitment to handle confidentiality and sensitive issues with tact and discretion.
Demonstrate ability to work independently and with others to achieve company goals.
Ability to follow directions assigned by the attending paramedic.
