Wright Tree Service of Canada’s operations include safety-sensitive positions and safety-sensitive worksites. Each employee, contractor, subcontractor and supplier performing work or carrying out work on Wright Tree Service of Canada’s behalf, where the work includes a safety-sensitive position or is performed or carried out at a safety-sensitive worksite, must have, administer and enforce an alcohol and drug policy and testing program.
Wright Tree Service of Canada is seeking a dedicated and safety-oriented Traffic Controller to join our team in the vegetation management industry. As a Traffic Controller, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient movement of traffic around our work sites, contributing to the success of our operations while prioritizing the safety of our crew and the public.
Responsibilities (but not limited to):
  • Direct and control vehicular and pedestrian traffic at work sites, ensuring smooth flow and minimal disruption.
  • Monitor site conditions and implement safety protocols to protect workers and the public. Report any hazards or incidents immediately.
  • Erect and maintain traffic control signs, cones, and barriers in accordance with applicable regulations and best practices.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for motorists and pedestrians, providing clear directions and information regarding detours and delays.
  • Work closely with crew members and site supervisors to coordinate operations and minimize traffic disruption.
  • Document daily activities, incidents, and any traffic-related issues encountered during work shifts.
  • Participate in ongoing training and development related to traffic control and safety regulations.
  • Work and train with Certified Arborists to assist on work duties.
Requirements:
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and on a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to read and complete daily paperwork.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of tree maintenance and arboriculture.
  • Thorough knowledge of safety in the industry, as well as the use of equipment including power and hand tools.
  • Knowledge of trees, insects, and diseases in order to provide recommendations for proper care
  • Valid ISA certification.
  • Experience within the tree care industry, including aerial operator and/or climbing skills, pruning experience, and tree-identification skills.
  • Degree in forestry or related field and/or experience within the utility tree care industry.
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license with a clean driving record, air brakes endorsement a plus
  • Species identification skills and invasive species knowledge, plus knowledge of tree characteristics and growth rates is a plus.
  • CSTS, WHMIS, First Aid and TDG certifications preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and self-motivate with good time management.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Flexibility with traveling in and out of town, via plane and/or vehicle.
  • Maintain a high level of technical knowledge and retain valid First Aid certification.
  • Ability to travel and work in rugged terrain and inclement weather.
  • Proficient in map navigation skills and orienteering.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and data collection software (GIS experience a plus).
  • Assistance may be required during major storm events.
  • Applicant must pass pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
