Description :
Reporting to the Professional Services Coordinator, the Social Work Technician is responsible for supporting students seeking Mental Health and Wellness services at the college. This includes receiving, screening, referring, and occasional short-term intervention with students who are experiencing or likely to experience emotional, social, academic, family or psychological difficulties.
More specifically, but not limited to, the Social Work Technician:
- Acts as the front-line resource person; provides students with a needs assessment and follow-up;
- In collaboration with the mental health professionals, implements an intervention plan that responds to the problems encountered and the client's specific needs;
- Helps students identify solutions and develops action plans while providing the necessary support;
- Develops prevention and awareness tools on various subjects such as stress management, motivation, isolation, anxiety, etc.;
- Intervenes, defuses, and provides follow-up support in crises;
- Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders impacted by crises;
- Develops and facilitates workshops to provide concrete tools and gives students opportunities to build a support network;
- Develops and maintains relationships with other internal and external resources;
- Sensitizes the college community to the needs of students through presentations, workshops, and outreach initiatives;
- Maintains student records and compiles statistics;
Other related tasks which fall within the scope of the classification of this position may be assigned.
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (21-28 hours per week). May be adjusted based on the needs of the service

Requirements :
Qualifications:
- Diploma of college studies (DEC) in Social Services Technology or Special Care Counselling/ Special Education Techniques.
Conditions related to the specific position:
- Experience in a similar role within a public institution (an asset);
- Demonstrated competence and experience in the area of crisis intervention and response;
- Excellent judgment and analytical skills;
- Extensive knowledge of community resources;
- Excellent workshop and programming planning, and design skills;
- Autonomy and the ability to work independently within established guidelines;
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team;
- Capacity to adapt and manage priorities with competing deadlines;
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
- Strong English oral and written communication skills (to be tested);
- Good French oral and written communication skills (to be tested);
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office (to be tested);
- Ability to support individuals from diverse communities drawing upon personal experience, formal training, and previous work experience.
