Grey Rock Services is currently seeking Snow Plow Operators for our 2024-2025 Trans-Labrador Highway Winter Road Maintenance. We currently are seeking operators for positions in Labrador City, Churchill Falls and Ranger Lake.
Job Summary:
Between Nov. 1, 2024 – April 30, 2025, no time off for holidays or vacation days outside of the pre-determined shift schedule or otherwise agreed to with superintendent of the project will be considered.
Rotational schedule will be based on 20 days on and 10 days off for duration of season.
Actual start date will be determined upon hiring.
Provincial minimum required vacation pay will be included in pay rate.
Employees are expected to be on call and available thru-out the contract period while on schedule between 4:30am and 12:00pm.
Mandatory working times are between 4:30am – 9:00am daily to complete the mandatory “blue-light run”.
Additional working time during snow/ice events as required are considered incidental to the work.
No additional pay or overtime will be considered during sever snow/ice events, nor will deductions be made during periods of no/low weather conditions.
Skills Requirements/Duties:
Adhere to all company safety policies/rules and perform tasks in a safe fashion.
Operate a tandem axle plow/sand truck daily on Trans Labrador highway on route assigned by Project Superintendent
Perform daily pre and post operational checks on equipment.
Complete daily paperwork requirements including Take 5, daily salt/sand distribution sheet, daily operator logbook, etc…
Maintain equipment and facilities in good condition. Including inside and outside of cabs, around depot/park-up areas, etc.
Perform other duties as instructed by Project Superintendent
Class 1 or 3 NL Driver’s License (or equivalent from another province)
Experience operating snow blowers, and related snow removal tools/equipment is an asset.
Experience with a dump truck, snow plow truck, loader (CAT 966 or equivalent) and salt truck.
Preference is to local hires for the two communities.
Operators located in Ranger Lake will be working in an isolated location where employees will need to be familiar with operating generators along with cooking and cleaning for themselves.
Employees at Ranger Lake will have their personnel bedroom but share all other common areas. 2-3 employees will be living there full-time during winter operations. Housing includes full kitchen, living room, washroom, and laundry services.
Please note pre-hire drug/alcohol testing and a “medical standard for driver” as per Service NL requirements for commercial drivers will be a requirement for this position.
