Emergency Dispatch is a dynamic and highly rewarding occupation that works out of the Yellowknife Fire Hall. We need a professional; detail oriented and highly motivated individual to assume the challenging and rewarding role of Relief Emergency Dispatcher.
Reporting to the Deputy Fire Chief and under the direct supervision of the Emergency Dispatch Supervisor, the Relief Emergency Dispatcher is responsible for assisting the public by providing emergency and non-emergency dispatching services for the Fire Division, the Municipal Enforcement Division, and the Public Works Department. The Relief Emergency Dispatcher will be required to demonstrate flexibility, as they will be required to switch shifts with minimal notice to cover unplanned staff shortages and operational needs. This is a full time position where your weekly schedule will adapt to the operational needs of the workplace on a regular basis. The incumbent must have strong communication skills and possess the ability to deliver clear and concise communication for providing instructions in both non-emergency and emergency situations. The incumbent must demonstrate the ability to perform independently; utilizing sound judgment to mediate a variety of emergency situations and possess the ability to operate both FDM CAD and SCADA computerized systems. A minimum of 1 year of experience working in a fast paced, high call volume commercial or government dispatching or call taking facility is preferred. High School Diploma or Equivalent
Emergency Medical Dispatching (EMD) Certificate
Emergency Fire Dispatching (EFD) Certificate
Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) Certificate
Public Safety Telecommunicator Certificate
Standard First Aid/CPR-C
Please note: All emergency related qualifications can be attained through courses taught at the Fire Hall. The City of Yellowknife offers an attractive salary range of $75,447 - $92,545 and a comprehensive benefits package that includes monthly housing and vacation travel allowances and a defined benefit pension plan.
