Job Summary & Key Responsibilities
GELA 2000: Introduction to Geology – Winter 2025
The instructor is responsible for administering and the in-person delivery of GELA 2000, Introduction to Geology, on the Truro campus in the Winter 2025 semester. The part-time academic will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the class, including lectures, labs, tutorials, test preparation, and evaluation. Student contact through virtual or in-person office hours will also be required. The position reports to the Chair of the Department.

The Truro campus Winter 2025 offering of this course includes in-person lectures on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:35 to 12:55 and labs on Tuesdays from 8:35 to 11:25.
This course introduces the student to the basic concepts of Earth Science and Physical Geology. Geology, as a subject matter area in the Earth Sciences, is closely related to soil science. This course will examine the nature of Earth materials as well as Earth processes, both internal and surface. Minerals, rocks, earthquakes, streams, and groundwater are just some of the areas investigated in this course. Many geological processes are of importance to the Environmental Sciences because an understanding of Earth processes is fundamental for the understanding of human impacts on our landscape.
Qualifications/Requirements of Position
The successful candidate should have a graduate degree or equivalent academic experience in Soils, Geology, Civil Engineering, or a related field. Prior experience with multi-disciplinary students at a university level is a considerable asset. Candidates must have a strong background and interest in teaching, good communication skills, and the ability to work as a team member. Experience in the learning management system used at Dalhousie University (Brightspace) is an asset.
Salary Range/Pay Rate
