POSITION: Occupational Health & Safety Advisor, Cape Breton Lead SUPERVISOR: Manager, Safety Services ABOUT THE CONSTRUCTION SAFETY NOVA SCOTIA Construction Safety Nova Scotia (CSNS) is an industry founded and funded membership based not-for-profit association focused on improving Occupational Health & Safety outcomes in the construction industry. OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE Under the direction of and reporting to OHS Cape Breton Lead with accountability to the Manager, Safety Services, the OHS Cape Breton Lead plays a crucial role designing and delivering CSNS safety training, conducting Certificate of Recognition (COR) audits and advising members on training and safety matters both as part of the Safety Service team as well as undertaking an influential role in the Cape Breton satellite office. The OHS Cape Breton Lead also participates in office and facilities management, ongoing business development, new program initiatives as well as provides input and quality assurance review of training materials to enhance the skills, knowledge, and experience of learners. The OHS Cape Breton Lead plays a key role in developing and ensuring training delivery, audit, and advisory services, represent the brand and reputation of Construction Safety Nova Scotia as a leader in workplace safety positively influencing the occupational health and safety culture within the Nova Scotia construction sector. EDUCATION, CREDENTIALS, AND OTHER Requirements
Post secondary education in occupational health and safety or other related field or experience.
Applicable trade certification is an asset.
Fall Protection and Confined Space experience, preferably with certification.
Must have or be willing to pursue a recognized professional OH&S designation (CRSP is preferred) acceptable to Construction Safety Nova Scotia.
Experience in an adult training or learning role, preferably within the construction sector.
Strong computer skills, specifically Microsoft Office Suite with emphasis on Power Point.
Availability Monday-Friday during regular hours of work as well as ad hoc evenings and weekends to attend events on behalf of CSNS.
Cape Breton and provincial travel requires a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
Subject matter expertise in the Nova Scotia Occupational Health Safety Act and Regulations as well as understanding of WCB, CSA standards applicable to the construction industry and experience in a safety related industry or environment.

Duties and Responsibilities FACILITIES AND SATELLITE OFFICE MANAGEMENT
Provides operational service delivery to members in Cape Breton according to CSNS standards and aligned with CSNS brand and service expectations.
Manages the day-to-day operation of the Cape Breton office including, but not limited to, operational availability aligned with CSNS hours of work (8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday to Friday and ad doc evenings and weekends s required) and customer service including, reception, product services, client inquiries, member bookings and appointments, and walk ins.
Monitors facility, office space, furniture and technology needs and maintenance requirements; addresses issues, liaising with Facilities (Dartmouth) for support and escalating to the Manager and Director, Safety Services, as appropriate.
Proactively monitors and manages training material and product inventory supplies, liaises with Product Services on ongoing inventory requirements; ensures inventory meets both current and anticipatory needs; submits inventory orders in accordance with timeline requirements and obtains materials to ensure consistent availability of stock.
Seeks, establishes, and maintains business relationships in Cape Breton and other areas, as required, to enable business development, generate leads, expand reach of training course delivery and COR audits, attend events as required and serve as a representative and ambassador for CSNS in the Cape Breton region.
TRAINING DELIVERY AND ADMINSTRATION
Completes administrative preparation for training courses (confirms registration, location, schedule, class lists, etc.) with supporting teams.
Prepares for and delivers training programs to members and other customers, meeting industry and CSNS standards.
Identifies and resolves issues pertaining to training preparation, delivery, and evaluation.
Participates in quality management and continuous improvement monitoring of existing training programs and services.
Participates in the development and regular review of training presentations and student support materials to keep them relevant, accurate, and reflective of the latest industry trends, best practices, and compliance with relevant industry standards, legal requirements, and compliance regulations.
Identifies, addresses, and manages internal and external stakeholder/customer training, program, and service needs/concerns.
Scans, maintains, and submits up-to-date training records daily to the CSNS Dartmouth office to ensure members receive training certifications in a timely manner compliant with legislative requirements.
Provides trainer and participant feedback to contribute to the effectiveness of training programs through student evaluations and other mechanisms.
Collaboratively works with team members to analyze feedback to measure the impact of training and make improvements as necessary.
Provides support to other trainers and facilitators, ensuring team effectiveness in CSNS training delivery.
Works with OHS Advisors and Safety Services leadership and supports business development and service growth opportunities. This may include enhancements to advisory services related to construction/safety equipment, technology, training services, and auditing.
COR AUDIT AND EVALUATION
Provides guidance and advice to members about Certificate of Recognition (COR) Audit requirements.
Conducts comprehensive safety inspections and risk assessments of the workplace.
Verifies compliance with safety regulations, industry standards, and internal safety policies.
Identifies potential hazards and risks to health and safety within the workplace.
Analyzes incident reports and safety records to identify trends and areas of improvement.
Collaborates with CSNS member management to provide advice on development of effective safety protocols and procedures.
Prepares detailed audit reports outlining findings and recommendations to enhance workplace safety.
Ensures quality review of COR audit reports by the Manager, Safety Services.
Maintains up to date COR Audit documentation and records; submits documentation as required to the CSNS Dartmouth office.
Conducts follow up audits to monitor and track safety improvements.
Provides guidance to CSNS member management on best practices for maintaining a safe work environment.
Keeps abreast of industry-specific regulations and standards to ensure compliance during the auditing process.
Provides recommendations to issue Certificate of Recognition (COR) certification and/or provides remedial activities for member follow up.
Provides COR audit data and feedback, as required, to inform CSNS performance outcomes.
SAFETY ADVISORY AND SUBJECT MATTER EXPERTISE
Promotes the value-added services available to members and construction stakeholders through individual consultation and group presentations.
Carries out speaking engagements relative to safety topics of interest and other areas of expertise at the direction of leadership.
Provides safety subject matter expertise to the internal CSNS safety program and advisory service to members as a best practice leader in employer safety.
Develops and updates internal safety policies, procedures, and practices, as required.
Seeks out opportunities and engages to advance CSNS business development in Cape Breton; engages the Manager and Director, Safety Services in identifying, facilitating, and influencing new business opportunity.
Participates in assigned projects and initiatives to advance CSNS program and service offerings.
Attends CSNS sanctioned meetings and events to enable the effective delivery of member services.
Other designated responsibilities are determined by the Manager or Director, Safety Services, as required.
