Manager, Student Recruitment

Manager, Student Recruitment

Start Date: As Soon As Possible
Salary Range: $80,826.48 to $109,353.48
Location: 7 Fultz Campus
Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm (35 hours/week)


The student recruitment team performs a crucial role in ensuring effective delivery of MITT’s student recruitment targets. The purpose of the Manager, Student Recruitment role is to develop and implement marketing and recruitment strategies in order to support international and domestic (including Indigenous) student recruitment objectives. This is accomplished through developing local relationships with influential members of different communities, analysis of market intelligence, a rigorous planning process, various data analytics, making optimal use of available channels for engagement, and close collaboration with a range of stakeholders, both inside and outside the college.

The incumbent draws on their knowledge and expertise in team leadership, to establish a productive, high-performance team working effectively and ethically on behalf of MITT to support greater student flows from key markets, both domestically and internationally.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Manage and supervise personnel and complete all administrative functions for staff (i.e., talent management; performance management, which includes annual reviews/discipline; training and professional development; and time management).
Staff Management and Development
  • Provide oversight and direction to student recruitment staff in accordance with the organization's policies and procedures.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop staff, including overseeing new employee onboarding and providing career development planning and opportunities.
  • Empower employees to take responsibility for their jobs and goals. Delegate responsibility and expect accountability and regular feedback.
  • Foster a spirit of teamwork and unity among business unit members that allows for disagreement over ideas, conflict and expeditious conflict resolution, and the appreciation of diversity as well as cohesiveness, support, and working effectively together to enable each employee and the business unit to succeed.
  • Consciously create a workplace culture that is consistent with that of the overall organizations.
  • Provide effective performance feedback through employee recognition, and disciplinary action, with the assistance of People Services, when necessary.
  • Maintain employee work schedules including assignments, training, vacations and paid time off, telecommuting, cover for absenteeism, and overtime scheduling.
  • Maintain transparent communication. Appropriately communicate organization information through team meetings, one-on-one meetings, and appropriate email, IM (Instant Messaging), and regular interpersonal communication.
  • Re-evaluate team for efficiencies and process enhancements.
Budget Control and Analysis
  • Assist the Director, Student Recruitment in the area budget and make financial projections and reports of income and expenditures
  • Prepare and present reports summarizing relevant data, statistics, and recommendations.
Agent Management
  • Establish and maintain agent screening and maintenance processes to mitigate reputational risk, while also providing agent support and services that reflect industry best practices, facilitate the productivity of the partnerships.
  • Process agent applications and make recommendations to Director, Student Engagement.
  • Motivate agents to reach recruitment targets.
  • Ensure agents selected do not charge unreasonable and usurious fees to students or exploit students and their families.
  • Examine productivity of agents and manages active and inactive agent lists monthly.
  • Cancel, renew, and modify agent agreements in consultation with and approval from the Director, Student Engagement.
  • Support existing domestic and overseas agents with communication responses to inquires.
  • Develop new domestic and International agent resources.
  • Help develop content and provides agents with all the necessary marketing materials to help promote our programs (i.e. brochures, display units, PDF files, agent certificates).
  • Facilitate agent seminars and training electronically and in assigned source countries when required.
  • Facilitate effective and timely commission payment procedures and protocols, in consultation with MITT Finance department.
International Student Recruitment
  • Communicate student recruitment strategies and approaches to various areas of MITT with the goal of promoting alignment in recruitment efforts.
  • Investigate, identify, and develop specific and targeted marketing strategies for each major country (China, Mexico, India, Japan and Scandinavian countries, for example), and is responsible for the design of international student recruitment efforts and partnership strategies, including all educational fairs, International display events, government education fairs and agency tours to all countries specified within the enrolment strategy.
  • Strategically deploy MITT student recruitment resources nationally and internationally; that includes travelling and participating in relevant meetings and events.
  • Maintain a high level of knowledge of current educational trends and demographics nationally and internationally.
  • Reach specified student recruitment targets based on MITT’s strategic plan.
Domestic Student Recruitment
  • Participate in the development of the recruitment strategy and identified targets (conversions), in accordance with the institution’s strategic enrolment management plan.
  • Develop and implement student recruitment events and engagement strategies that motivate domestic students to choose MITT.
  • Foster and develop new relationships with MITT influencers, including guidance counsellors, adult education centres, newcomer, and government organizations.
  • Develop and implement strategies and marketing campaigns for the institution’s customer relationship management (CRM) system.
  • Work closely with other departments to ensure there is an understanding of recruitment’s goals and objectives, as well as the impacts of its activities on these other teams.
  • Strategically deploy MITT student recruitment resources locally including travelling and participating in relevant meetings and events, as approved in an annual travel/marketing plan.
  • Create and maintain contact records for all relevant local contacts (guidance counsellors, etc).
Marketing Support
  • In conjunction with recruitment staff, liaise with Marketing and Communication on a regular basis to ensure events and information pertaining to domestic and international student recruitment are updated.
  • Ensure domestic and international recruitment promotional materials are up-to-date and available.
  • Oversee the development and application of domestic and international recruitment marketing and promotional materials, including website, Power Point presentations, print materials, video, etc.
  • Advise marketing on recruitment trends.
  • Work closely with Marketing and Communications to create annual plan (including goals, objectives, and resource needs).
  • Liaise with Projects and Events Officer to determine and implement events such as Open House, Counsellors Seminar, webinars, and other event-based recruitment efforts and participate in these events.
Business Development
  • Coordinate assigned staff and internal partners to participate in regional, provincial, national, and international workshops, symposiums, conferences, and trade missions.
  • Review and recommend to Director, Student Recruitment potential partnership agreements.
  • Track International student statistics and report regularly to the Director, Student Recruitment.
  • Build and maintain an active network of key contacts in partner institutions and organizations (ex. Professional associations and business/government) to promote the reputation of, and add-value to, the Institute.

Required Qualifications and Experience
:

A combination of related education and experience may be considered.
  • Post-secondary education within the field of Marketing, Public Relations, Business Administration, or Student Services.
  • Five to seven years of related experience, including experience in recruitment, enrollment management, operations, leadership, systems development, personnel/staffing management, academic advising and program development; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Excellent knowledge of agent relations, marketing, communications, and student recruitment theories, best practices and strategies.
  • Excellent knowledge of policies and regulations related to student recruitment, transition, development, academic programming, and services at an institutional level.
  • Proficient in the use of enterprise level systems (i.e., SIMS, CRM) as well as standard office systems (word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and database applications) and business process design.
  • Ability to research, synthesize, and analyze metrics.
  • Ability to travel internationally and in Canada may be required
  • Valid passport is required
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle required


Preferred Qualifications and Experience
:

  • Knowledge on IRCC policies and regulations
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in strategic enrolment management.
  • Knowledge of the local secondary and post-secondary school systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in domestic and international marketing communications and strategies.
