BC Hydro is looking for a dynamic, innovative, results-oriented maintenance manager to join its Fleet Services team and
help lead the transformation of the fleet maintenance function to ensure it meets the company’s evolving business needs.
BCH relies on Fleet Services to provide the vehicles and equipment needed to fulfill its mandate to meet the electricity
needs of its customers by delivering on the capital plan while safely and cost effectively operating a growing system. Fleet
Services is responsible for over 3,100 fleet vehicles across the province.
The position will report to the Senior Manager of Maintenance and Operations and lead a unionized workforce of people
who perform day to day operations of BC Hydro’s Fleet. The position requires dedication to customer satisfaction with a
focus on excellent customer service to our internal clients, demonstrated strong leadership abilities, excellent
communication skills, as well as very good organizational, problem solving and interpersonal skills.
This is an operations role and calls for someone with a strong safety record and demonstrated proactive approach to safety,
and a penchant for successfully leading continuous improvement and delivering great results in vehicle maintenance
programs.
The ideal candidate has relevant fleet maintenance expertise (with utility fleets, and with aerial bucket trucks, stiff boom
crane trucks, digger derrick trucks, and articulating boom trucks), plus experience with shop-floor work management best
practices.
The successful candidate will:
- Drive a safety culture by ensuring the use of safe work practices that comply with BC Hydro policies and Provincial &
Federal regulations.
- Recognize safe work performance and intervene when necessary to prevent safety incidents.
- Lead a team of highly-skilled vehicle mechanics to safely perform maintenance, repairs and other tasks/projects within
annual work plans
- Review and continuously provide input to improve maintenance programs, to ensure optimal total lifecycle maintenance
investment.
- Continuously improve work practices, with a focus on safety, efficiency and quality of work performed.
- Develop and sustain relationships, specifically with BC Hydro’s operating groups, to understand their business priorities
and needs so Fleet Services can successfully operate to meet these needs in a flexible and efficient way
- Be part of project teams to implement a multi-year, strategic change program for Fleet Services, focusing on operational
excellence to meet the future needs of clients, many of whom are currently transforming their business processes;
