Gender-based and sexual violence can happen anywhere, including NAIT. Together we can create a safe, supportive community free from gender-based and sexual violence. NAIT's Gender Based and Sexual Violence Prevention (GBSV) and Education Specialist is an advisor and consultant to all departments across the institute. The successful individual will be leading broad-scope initiatives and projects interacting with students and staff across the polytechnic. The GBSV Specialist will contribute to building a safe and inclusive working and learning environment where all people are welcomed, valued and treated equitably and with fairness advancing NAIT's strategic commitments to Gender Based and Sexual Violence (GBSV) Prevention, Education and Response.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide GBSV prevention, education and response subject matter expertise, by applying theories, best practice, leading methodologies, or lived experience to infuse GBSV best practice into institutional and departmental initiatives
Apply GBSV and EDI lens to policy, procedure, strategy, communication, and other institutional projects
Responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of initiatives advancing NAIT's strategic commitments to Gender Based and Sexual Violence (GBSV) Prevention, Education and Response
Contribute to the implementation of NAIT's Diversity and Inclusion
Change Management
Act as an advisor and subject matter expert, guiding leaders, staff and instructors as they seek to advance NAIT's commitments to prevention, education and response
Support initiatives and projects aligned to the strategic priorities of the OEDI and Student Life Administration teams
Implement and assess departmental GBSV prevention, education and response action plans
Learning Facilitation and Delivery
Develop, coordinate, facilitate and assess programs, workshops, learning opportunities, resources, and initiatives that increase awareness of GBSV, how to support survivors and foster inclusive learning and working environments for all
Lead and support initiatives that commemorate, acknowledge or celebrate days of significance connected to communities most impacted by GBSV
Participate in and support NAIT's GBSV Support Guide Network and maintain involvement with professional and community groups that advance GBSV prevention, education and response best practice
Facilitate engagement with equity-deserving communities through relationship building, active listening, facilitating listening circles, or other relational approaches
Represent NAIT and OEDI on internal and external committees
Receive GBSV disclosures

Skills & Abilities:
Ability to apply trauma-informed, anti-colonial, anti-oppressive lenses to GBSV prevention, education and response.
Advanced knowledge of issues facing historically excluded and equity-deserving communities in higher education, especially those most impacted by GBSV, and a demonstrated ability to facilitate positive, inclusive conversations on these topics.
Excellent verbal communication skills, including comfort with speaking to large groups of people and influencing leaders, and the ability to explain complex topics to folks new or resistant to the ideas/theories
Ability to deal with sensitive or confidential information in a professional manner.
Ability to interact (and maintain composure) with people who are resistant to change, especially related to GBSV prevention, education, and response.
Ability to research, comprehend, and apply theories and best practices related to GBSV prevention, education and response
Exceptional workshop development, facilitation and evaluation skills, including developing and measuring learning outcomes and objectives.
Strong working knowledge of the Criminal Code of Canada as it pertains to sexual violence, and applicable NAIT strategies, policies and procedures.
Event Planning Skills
Strategic thinking, critical thinking
Skilled in computer use for internet research, developing presentations (Power Point), compiling statistics (Excel), developing information, doing reports and writing supporting letters for students (Word), facilitating virtual workshops (Teams, Zoom, Web Ex), and developing and administering surveys (Qualtrics)
Qualifications:
Diploma or undergraduate degree in related field of study
Preferred field of study (not limited to): education, sociology, women and gender studies, queer studies, social work, and political science
A Master's degree would be an asset. Significant related professional experience will also be considered.
Canadian Certified Inclusion Professional (CCIP™) designation an asset
5+ years of experience in a post-secondary or other social justice organization with a focus on GBSV capacity-building and education delivery
Program development and implementation experience
Experience facilitating educational, social, and change management programs that advance equity and inclusion,
Experience working with individuals from historically excluded and/or equity-deserving groups, including but not limited to Racialized/Black/People of Colour, 2SLGBTQIA+, disabled people, and/or Aboriginal/Indigenous people.
Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services or the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS).
Remuneration: $71,098.04 - $95,372.94 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package. (Classification - Advisor/ Specialist II).
This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement.
