Front Desk Receptionist

Salary: Starting at $16.78 hourly
Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time, Union
* This is a union position and all rates of pay and benefits are outlined in the Collective Agreement.
Key Accountabilities:
  • Greeting, welcoming, and directing visitors at the front desk courteously and professionally.
  • Answering, screening, and forwarding incoming phone calls with efficiency and professionalism.
  • Support the Sales, Service and Parts departments by managing customer traffic, including handling phone calls, leads, requests, and walk-ins.
  • Maintain the appearance and cleanliness of the front desk area, displays, and client contact areas are tidy and well-maintained according to company standards.
  • Developing and maintaining a comprehensive understanding of Dealership products and services through on-the-job training and participation in educational programs.
  • Cultivating strong relationships with customers to foster repeat business.
  • Performing additional receptionist duties such as filing, photocopying, and faxing.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent phone and interpersonal communication abilities.
  • High School diploma preferred, will consider skills and competences of past experiences.
  • Prior receptionist experience in the automotive sector is an asset.
  • Applicants must be able to reliably commute to St. John's, NL.
  • Certificate of Good Conduct required.

  • Attention to Detail : Being meticulous in tasks such as taking messages accurately, scheduling appointments correctly, and ensuring all necessary information is recorded.
  • Multitasking: Managing multiple responsibilities simultaneously, such as answering calls, greeting visitors, and handling administrative tasks.
  • Adaptability: Being flexible and able to adjust to changing circumstances or priorities.

Physical Requirements:
  • Sitting and Standing: Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time, as the job may involve working at a desk or standing at the front desk to greet visitors.
  • Computer Use: Proficiency in using a computer and related equipment, including keyboards and mice, for tasks such as data entry, email communication, and document processing.
  • Phone Use: Ability to use a phone system, including answering calls, transferring calls, and taking messages, which may require dexterity and the ability to hear and speak clearly.
  • Lifting and Carrying : Capability to lift and carry light objects, such as packages or office supplies, which may be necessary for tasks like receiving deliveries or restocking supplies.
  • Mobility: Ability to move around the reception area and office space to perform tasks, greet visitors, and assist with various office duties.
  • Vision: Sufficient vision to read documents, computer screens, and visitor information, as well as to navigate the office environment safely.
  • Hearing: Ability to hear and understand verbal communication, both in person and over the phone, to effectively communicate with visitors and colleagues.
  • Manual Dexterity: Proficiency in using office equipment, such as printers, copiers, and fax machines, as well as in performing tasks that require precise hand movements, such as filing or organizing documents.

  • Comply with applicable laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Follow ergonomic guidelines and best practices to reduce the risk of musculoskeletal injuries and promote overall well-being.
  • Emergency Response: Receptionists should be prepared to respond to emergencies, including knowing how to use emergency equipment and how to safely evacuate the premises if necessary.
