The Employer Advisor Nova Scotia Society aims to assist Nova Scotia employers and employer associations.

OEA NS seeks a collaborative, highly skilled individual to fill an Employer Advisor position. Reporting to the Executive Director, this position is responsible for day-to-day OEA Services to clients. Working with the Executive Director, the Board of Directors, and other team members, this role assists employers in business success through building strong, trustworthy relationships, effective writing, communication, and advisory skills, and the proven ability to identify, articulate, and navigate employers through difficult and complex technical issues.
Responsibilities of the Employer Advisor position include, but are not limited to, the following:
· Provides advice, assistance and support to employers in the interpretation of workers’ compensation, workplace health and safety and related employment legislation and issues, bringing success to the employer and that help to build up our economy in Nova Scotia,
· Provide timely, practical, solutions-oriented navigation of complex technical issues related to the workplace, performance e, rights and obligations,
· Navigation of the WCB and OHS appeals processes,
· Assist the employer to develop objectives and outcomes to action their rights and obligations,
· Develop, facilitate and deliver training, awareness and education programs for Employers,
· Advise, assist and support Employers with case management, disability management and rate issues,
· Assist employers in navigating safe return-to-work planning for their workers,
· Navigate employers in their development of workplace policies and practices that support safe and healthy working Nova Scotians,
· Advocacy and consultation with Employers related to the WSIS system,
· Participate in “system” committees and groups struck by government and agencies related to the WSIS mandate.
· Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
o Minimum of five years of relevant professional experience and strong knowledge pertaining to employment rules, standards, laws and policies,
o Strong intake, assessment, case and file management skills,
o Strong oral and written communication skills,
o Strong Interpersonal skills and self-awareness,
o Excellent time management, prioritization, and sense of accountability,
o Ability to support a wide range of Employer needs arising from WCB, OHS and workplace employment situations,
Practical and demonstrated skills with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Outlook, Excel, Forms, Calendar, Share Point, Power Point, and Teams.
o The ability to write and format professional documents, including correspondence and policies, and effectively understand and interpret complex written materials.
o Research, change management, and capacity-building skills.
o A professional and positive attitude focused on individual responsibility, performance, and client and organizational success.

OTHER VALUABLE QUALIFICATIONS
o Post-secondary education with a concentration in business, health, nursing, or public administration, or interest to work in non-practicing status as lawyer,
o Experience working with Non-profit organizations,
o Experience and commitment to collaboratively and productively working in a team-focused environment,
o Experience and understanding of the healthcare system and industry,
o Demonstrated client and customer service, working with a busy and engaged team and an involved, well-connected volunteer Board of Directors
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS (assets):
o Human resources management experience,
o Project management training and experience,
o Experience with Occupational Health and Safety,

Performance Standards
The following performance standards apply to the Employer Advisor (EA) role and will be considered during selection.
Technical Skills
· The Advisor possesses, applies, and maintains a deep and broad knowledge of laws, systems, rules, regulations, and policies related to the effective Management and Administration of WCB.
Accountability and Accuracy:
  • The EA demonstrates a sense of responsibility and professional accountability at all times in completing tasks, in a timely manner. Manages multiple priorities without becoming easily overwhelmed. Works independently under broad or general supervision, establishes priorities appropriately, consults with the ED as necessary, and understands/acts upon the relative urgency of tasks and their impact on the OEA and the client. At all times, the EA maintains accuracy and confidentiality in all they do.
Ethical Behavior:
  • In performing all tasks, the EA demonstrates integrity, honesty, a sense of responsibility, and loyalty to the OEA, colleagues, and the client.
Teamwork:
  • The EA will display a team-based approach to work, respect each client and co-worker's diversity, and treat each person respectfully and as an individual. The EA will take responsibility for their assignments. The EA's presence will positively enhance the teamwork of the OEA and client teams.
Effective Time Management:
  • The EA completes work on schedule and responds quickly to client and co-worker needs. They will return all phone calls and emails from clients within twenty-four hours (if an answer cannot be provided, advise the client/supervisor of progress being made and targeted completion) and set personal priorities about the organization’s goals. Requests from the ED will be responded to as presented.
Excellence in Client Service:
  • The EA demonstrates customer service skills by anticipating, understanding, and addressing internal/team and client needs, will be flexible and adaptable in responding to client and co-worker needs and will be solution-oriented and focused on possible resolutions to problems and issues.
Problem-Solving Outcomes:
  • The EA creates plans and systems to achieve favourable client outcomes while meeting OEA standards, strategies, operational plans and goals according to established timelines and requirements.
Professionalism:
  • The EA will demonstrate expertise, integrity, commitment to OEA goals, client service, OEA Policies, functional standards, and further relevant research/information.
Communication:
  • The EA will communicate with others, within and outside the OEA, with honesty and integrity, listen to understand colleagues and client needs and provide accurate information and advice to meet those needs, thereby earning the trust of colleagues and clients.
Serving as a Resource
  • The EA will be a trusted source of accurate information about the OEA and other relevant functions, policies, and processes.
Creativity, Consultation and Client Approach:
  • The EA will provide timely and creative solutions to problems, actively using technology and cost-effective methods. As needed, the EA will develop an exploration process to uncover the colleague or client’s needs, relevant background, organizational culture, and desired outcomes.
