We are looking to add a Driver/Waste Technician to our team!
Position Title: Driver/Waste Technician
Reports to: Whitehorse Facility Manager Department: Northern Facilities - Yukon Work Location: Whitehorse, YK
Position Summary
Under the guidance of the Facility Manager, the Driver/Waste Technician is crucial in ensuring efficient waste management operations. This role demands resilience and adaptability through performing indoor and outdoor tasks in varying weather conditions. Key responsibilities include operating small to large-size equipment, identifying and consolidating waste, preparing waste for transportation, and traveling for project-related tasks.
Duties and Responsibilities
Operations:
Completing daily pre and post trip inspections on commercial vehicles.
Completing daily drivers logs electronically or paper documentation.
Operating truck mounted forklift for loading and unloading of materials.
Safely securing materials in trucks and/or trailer.
Identify, handle, and prepare waste in strict adherence to legislation and TDG regulations, ensuring compliance at all times
Deliver exceptional customer service both at KBL and while representing KBL on-site
Efficiently complete customer pickups and drop-offs with professionalism and accuracy
Conduct thorough equipment inspections and perform daily maintenance to guarantee safe and effective equipment operation
Provide the Manager with all necessary information to facilitate accurate paperwork completion
Accurately fill out load sheets and inventories to track waste management activities
Manage the loading and unloading of trailers and customer drop-offs with precision
Uphold Safe Work Practices (SWP’s) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), promptly reporting near misses and incidents to the Manager
Utilize visual aids to maintain cleanliness and organization in the facility and yard, ensuring compliance with safety standards
Complete consolidation reports meticulously for all consolidation activities
Work independently and efficiently in remote areas, demonstrating self-reliance
Operate small to large-sized equipment safely and confidently
Assist in emergency spill cleanup responses with urgency and skill
Travel as needed to fulfill project-related responsibilities and requirements
Tools, Systems, Equipment, and Machinery:
Forklift and truck mounted forklift
Pallet power jack
Skid Steer
Various types of processing equipment
Various hand and power tools
Compliance, Health, and Safety Support:
Lead by example to foster a culture of safety and environmental stewardship within the workplace
Ensure compliance with KBL’s Health and Safety Management System by thoroughly understanding and applying safe work standards, policies, and procedures relevant to facility operations
Assist in assessing needs, sourcing, and distributing PPE to maintain safety standards
Actively participate in toolbox meetings to stay informed and engaged
Complete and assist with the completion of FLHAs (Field Level Hazard Assessments) in a timely manner
Provide HSE-related documents promptly to the HSE Representative or administrative personnel
Physical Requirements
Ability to safely operate a variety of machinery and equipment
Work Environment
There is a possibility of cuts, bruises, straining, disease and /or severe injury if safe work practices are not followed.
Work is carried out indoors and outdoors in extreme weather in winter months. There can be exposure to dust, noise, mud, water, smoke, and bacteria.
Qualifications
Experience with a straight vacuum truck and cube van truck would be considered an asset.
Operating experience with a truck mounted forklift would be considered an asset, but not required.
Class 1 or 3 Unrestricted Drivers license
Knowledgeable with TDG regulations and documentation.
Must be able to follow both oral and written instructions
Must be physically fit and able to work in all weather conditions
WHMIS Certification – KBL will provide training
TDG Certification – KBL will provide training
Due to possible exposure immunizations are recommended
